When I asked my wife out I had $100 set aside. Average date in my opinion should be a walk, dinner, and then spend more time talking after. As a result that should run around $30 a piece. And I tip high because I know how poorly restaurants pay staff

Quite honestly I've always practiced the small cheap simple first date mantra. My wife for example, we met at a concert, so our first actual date was to the waterfront next to a river where we could walk and talk. I bought some snacks, and she brought a fishing pole, I brought my own lol, her dad loves fishing by the way, and so does she. So we bonded over that. The entire date was 30 dollars I think, gas included. And we had fun. I did more expensive stuff later, but mostly she was happiest doing simple stuff. Even now that we are married, her ideal date night is to stay home with some good snacks and play games with me.
