I've known her for a year, but was always shy and didn't say anything. This week we both were shy and looked away and smiled. But after, she said she started dating a guy, but it seemed like she was trying to figure out how long it'd been and said 2 different things. Is she just saying that to make it easier to talk and have a line of communication. We're about to be working together, and she seems happy about it. We've been talking more too.

I’m not sure what you mean. If she told you she has a boyfriend, she either does (which doesn’t mean she doesn’t like you too) or she doesn’t and just said that so you wouldn’t ask her out. From the way you describe things, I feel like it’s the first one.

People who are shy would have a small amount of social anxiety. Anxiety might make someone not remember something like this that they consider important. I would believe someone who said they were talking to or seeing someone unless I had a good reason to think they were trying to make me jealous.
