Don't get mad at them (it ends the same any way). Ask them why they did. Not with whiny tears in your eyes or something. Just "oh... okay... may I ask why?"

They could lie to you, sure, but they could be honest, and you'll get a little tidbit of truth you may have no other access to.

In what way though. "Connect with" is too generic. You want specifics.

Emotionally:
He listens to them more
He has more in common with them
He shows more interest in their hobbies
He makes me laugh more

Sexually:
He's got a bigger package (well you can't do anything there)
He lasts longer (that you can work on)
He pulls my hair and f's me like it's his job (that you can work on)

Each of those is addressable AND, more importantly, if they are ALL giving the same answer, that's an actual deficiency you have and is easily addressed (most of them). If they're feeding you shite like "we connect more" that's so much "it's not you it's me" that there's nothing to do with that information.
