My wife was like that. We started off as just friends (albeit flirty friends) and became besties really quickly, often ditching our friends to talk to each other all night long.

We'd end up spending most of the night talking to each other at the edge of parties until our friends would say, "Hey, you guys are missing the party!" Then we'd join in a bit but often end up finding our way back to the edge to talk to each other more.

After almost a year of hanging out this way together with our mutual friends, one night our friends had to all leave early while we were at a bar, leaving just the two of us there. So we danced and she kissed me and I kissed her back and then we started dating.

Oh, I see! I have that as well. For example, it was one of my closest female friends who introduced me to my wife originally. She invited my wife to a picnic and invited me to the picnic and we met that way. I have a drawing of her I made in a bar. She's like a little sister to me:

Actually I asked her out on a date soon after we first met but she turned me down since she only dates Hindu guys. She's now married to a really good guy (also my close friend now) and have a daughter together.

Actually I have a picture of her from several years back (friend reunion). We've all been close friends for over 15 years now. She's the one on the left together with her now-husband. My wife is the one in the bunny ears and I'm the one in the grey shirt.


If it wasn't for that female best friend, I would have never met my wife.

Here in Japan, it's very common for men and women to become close friends with each other including childhood friends like in your case. I always found it strange that other cultures consider this unusual or even impossible, as though the closeness of friendship must always lead towards romantic feelings.
