1 yI used to like it because it gave me time to think of witty responses. It also give me time to respond if she texted something I don’t want to hear.
But I actually hate texting women who I am trying to set up a date with. Women can use this passive communication to screen guys and often to their own self sabotaging detriment. Men do better with women in person or talking over the phone. There is more legitimate connection and trust built up with that.
Also too many women have grown too comfortable with the sugar high of social media attention. It’s empty calories.

I do not know about you but there is no such this as a “virtual” relationship. You also don’t see many men “marrying” women who are in prison they can never sleep with.
Men want the full deal beyond talking and attention.

1 yOverall, I prefer texting over calling because it doesn't disrupt the receiver. When you call someone, they must stop what they are doing and answer the call, interrupting whatever they were doing. With a text, they can look at it or not... now or later, at their discretion.
Texting is also better than email because it goes straight to the receiver's phone, and a text is almost always short and sweet, easy for the receiver to read.

1 yI refused it until we became a serious item. I was down when I was single though to see each other 5+ times a week, even right we both got off from work.
The problem is not that I dislike it. I actually might even enjoy it.
The problem is that I've worked remotely for a good portion of my life. I've seen my colleagues get into so many heated arguments when texting each other over Skype that they never do face-to-face.
There's something about just writing text to each other that seems to lead to far more conflicts and misunderstandings. We don't get the benefit of communicating in person, seeing each other's body language, hearing each other's tone of voice, being able to show attentiveness listening to each other, etc.
So I never wanted to risk that type of miscommunication with a woman early into the dating process. That's why I refused to participate in texting except just to arrange when to next meet.

Another reason is that I rely on body language a lot more than most people for communication (both to express my feelings and to read other people's feelings). I am crippled in text communication. Like on this site, the way I write text on here is completely, completely different from how I speak in person. I try to use emojis as much as I can to convey tone but text is so lacking in tonality. 😢 I also can't read other people's tone so well just reading text.

m 1 yI've been reaching friends and family online for years... that's how I keep in touch with the ones that live apart
when it comes to relationships though... I rather live those in person

yes... unless she is at work, just woke up, or she's ready to sleep and in bed, or stuff like that
I very much prefer to be with her in person

1 yTexting is convenient, but I think calling at least once in a while is healthy. Too many things can get misconstrued over text. There's a lack of tone as well. You can solve things faster by talking over the phone or in person in case there's a misunderstanding from past conversations and arguments.

m 1 yI like it, because I can text and read over the whole day and don't have to find a common time for a phonecall. Also it's very practical to add pictures, graphs and web-links, for example in political discussions. And group-chats are easier than group-calls.
10 Reply 692 opinions shared on Dating topic. Not really, there's no inflection or intent in texting. At most you have emojis to convey implicit meaning, which is easy to misunderstand both ways. I prefer meeting people face to face or talking on the phone. To me texting is just a way to kill time and not something I take seriously at all, like social media, but on a more personalized level.

1 yIt's functional. It allows me to multitask a conversation while I'm chopping wood or making the week's bread or whatever, and it's great to let you know dinner reservations changed to a different time or something, but if you're going to get butthurt about me not writing back immediately don't text me.
10 Reply 3.7K opinions shared on Dating topic. No, no, no... at 75% of your overall message (the part containing body language and tone of voice) NOT getting through to your listener it's a flawed medium. When you are texting your SO emotions sometimes get heated which makes it even worse.

1 yAs for me I like things face to face or talking over the phone & when it comes to texting I’m not a texter & if truth be told I tell people if you have time to blowup my phone with messages find time to call instead.
10 Reply I like texting it can be fun, especially since you can go back and forth randomly throughout the day. You don't have to respond right if you are working or something. But if I was in a relationship I would want to call her over just texting
10 ReplyI have had previous encounters where I would initiate the conversations. Though I realised that I am a friendly texting guy but then if things are looking similar from the other person then it can be a great time! Otherwise, it's a big no :)

1 yNot really, at least in the beginning. Much prefer to actually speak and connect to know someone. Once you do obviously texting is normal but the notion that texting is how things begin is awful in my opinion...

1 yIt’s easier and they don’t have to answer right away like a phone call but I would like to talk to them since it’s to get context of the conversation with text only so I’ve gotten used to texting only for awhile
