What does it mean when a man takes off his wedding ring?

I’ve been best friends with my friend since college, we actually almost dated but then he hooked up with a cheerleader. She came out pregnant and then he married her. We went years not speaking, just occasional hi and byes whenever bumping into each other. A month ago I got a random phone call, it was him. Apparently he and his wife were living separate until they figured out if they were happy with each other.

Since then, we’ve had lunch with each other everyday. It was like our friendship just picked up from where we left off. I’m hesitant on actually dating him because he’s still married.

Yesterday he did something interesting. He showed up to lunch without his wedding ring. I just thought maybe it was too snug on him or something. As I was walking to my car to head back to work, he kissed me. I didn’t know what to say, other than I’m confused what’s going on. I don’t want him doing that if he’s still married.

He is lonely and wants someone to replace his wife. Yes, he is married. He took the ring off to demonstrate that he is not still committed to her, but he is still married. At this point, he is hoping to use you as a rebound. Nothing good will come from doing anything with this guy now. Tell him to go home and sort out his marriage, then call you again a year after his divorce becomes final.
