How do you tell if a japanese man is interested in you just a little bit or a lot a bit?

I met this man online who is from Japan. He has lived in the US for a few years and we go to the same christian college right now. I've heard various things about Japanese men being shy but also straightforward so I can't tell. I think he has some interest in me but I can't tell if it's more of a casual interest or deeper interest. Advice? Thoughts in general?

when they r interested they would usually text more often, try to call n initiate conversation n well if its liking u more then it would be too obvious from the way they will be talking

I am not so much expert since I've been very Americanized. I don't know exactly how a pure Japanese man would go about things. One thing though is that Japanese girls are usually extremely flirty and approach if they like a man. Japanese men don't typically approach women so much as the other way around.

@GuyAnswersGirls123 Agreed! I’ve noticed Asian women are very assertive about approaching men they like. Which was surprising at first, I thought they would be shy, I am much more shy though.

It might be a practical necessity since many Japanese guys are quite reserved or shy, but even the ones that aren't are governed by courtesy. They don't want to risk doing anything that makes a woman uncomfortable. So I think that results in a culture of women who can and often need to be extremely forward while the men are the ones who are reserved. Older Japanese men can be extremely forward though, like I have a friend who is an old man and he hits on practically every single woman he sees. 😅 But especially young Japanese men aren't very forward and will generally wait for women to make the first moves.

The ones who approach me are usually very brave ones. Most are shy.

They are kind of used to being pursued by women. Which was a culture shock for me, of course, I can’t do that, because where I am from, men are very dominant and they pursue you. I am still shy romantically.

I had to get over that type of shyness dating in the US although in Japan, it seems largely unnecessary since women would just let me know if they liked me, so I rarely ever had to guess. I wonder if it's like this in most of Asia, or at least East Asia.
