What does it mean when a guy says "he's not looking for anything serious right now"?

Hey everyone,

I wanted to get your thoughts on a situation I'm dealing with. A couple of weeks ago, I asked my crush out, and he told me he would think about it. After two weeks, he reached out to me and said, "I like your confidence, but I'm not looking for anything serious right now."

I'm a bit confused because I always thought he was interested in me. I wonder if his rejection might be related to his health, as he has an upcoming surgery and has been dealing with some serious health issues. Do you think his response could be influenced by his health situation? Do you think he might change his mind after recovery? Or do you think he's only interested in a casual relationship and not looking for anything serious? If so, he could've just accepted my date since I didn't specify if it was going to be serious or casual and then we can just talk about it, but he still rejected me.
