+1 yI know. I can't really throw shade at them since this site will auto-correct things and makes me look retarded. Not only that, I have to fight my own auto-correct as I type it. On top of all of that I type so fast (over 95WPM) that I just don't even notice. Thank the Gods I'm not on my phone where by fat fumble bum thumbs would really fuck me up. It's hard to explain, like when I have to retype the same word like 5 times because auto-correct wants to be auto-fuck-it-up.
As for the major retards here that sound like a retarded Kindergarten kid or a street gangsta that's been raised by the streets... our school systems are failing us.
I'm gonna take a shot of what I just wrote so you can get a sense of what I'm dealing with when it comes to typing this bullshit. Red and gray lines everywhere. It's like my English teacher on steroids.

It's fucking destracting Now I'm going to hit enter and let's pray G@G doesn't make their own changes. Because they do that shit a lot.

+1 yI'll be honest... when I reread my own opinions after posting them, I cringe quite a bit. My issue is that I don't usually proofread before I post them.
I would not judge someone's ability to read or write too extensively based on what you see on this site. Although I do have to say that with some people, it's pretty obvious English isn't their first language or bad with the language in general. It's also sometimes easy to tell when someone is good with the language.
It's ironic that I post a lot of stuff with grammatical errors, because I'm a bit of a grammar Nazi myself, but I notice a pattern with the mistakes. A lot of it is autocorrect's fault.
Ex. I sometimes accidentally use and instead of "a" or "an". That's clearly autocorrect. Sometimes I'll miss using a word entirely, which makes me look retarded.10 Reply
+1 yWell mine is probably sketchy at time but I try to use good grammar. its still important.

It drives me crazy and I know it may sound shallow but it’s an ick for me

I don't know if it's this site or my computer, but when I get something underlined in red, it's a spelling error. But when it's underlined in blue, it's telling me that I worded it wrong. That drives me crazy.

I'm the author and I will decide my own wording.

u +1 yIt is still important to me. I operate on the assumption that the grammar, spelling, and vocabulary of a person are a reliable indication of their intellectual level (unless English is not their native language.)

That would depend on what career you are intending to pursue, if you going into business where you are expected to be able to communicate with people the correct used of spelling and grammar is a must. When I worked in the US for a UK Company I’d write my reports in both US and UK English to forestall any complaints from US Managers, who would get aerated if I submitted any report in UK English. My UK Managers on the other hand did not really care as long as they received a report. I usually sent them in UK English but the did not mind if the occasional one in US English slipped in especially if it was an end of year report.

+1 yPeople have used bad grammar since the internet went online. The way media depicted the way people typed back in the early 2000's made it seem "hip" and "cool" to post using poor Engrish and slang words. I'll admit, I did that too. But I think once I reached the age of 15 I improved.
Aside from the English-speaking world, a lot of people outside the United States probably type in the English that they know instead of using Google Translate, because often when people type in bad English, it's because it's not a language they know (or care to know) fluently.

+1 yI know! All of a sudden, NOBODY knows the difference between "woman" and "women", but have no problem with "man" and "men"! "I" rarely ever gets capitalized but, I blame that on everyone typing on a phone instead of an actual keyboard. And there's SO MANY others, I'd be hard-pressed to list them all!

+1 yYou gotta remember that not everyone on the internet is necessarily from an English speaking country.
Some users on here (or any app) are just learning English or they’re straight up using google translate.Either way perfect grammar isn’t necessary on the internet. Sometimes I do come across posts that are illegible. But usually you can still understand what the person is trying to say or spell. So who cares if it’s technically perfect English or not.
Same in real life. People usually speak with slang or certain dialects. Nobody speaks perfectly00 Reply
+1 yNope. Grammar no longer matters. That all went to hit when we integrated and had to lower the standards so the "afletes" and the N******* could get a passing grade. Don't believe me? Just visit any "skreet" corner where the monkeys hang out and listen. You won't find one grammatically correct sentence amongst the entire tribe. Yet they all have a high "skoo" diploma because the teacher didn't want to be accused of racism.

I swear to god. 60 years of going to the white mans schools and there isn't a chimp in America that can get his plurals/singulars right.00 Reply1.8K opinions shared on Dating topic. You’re much younger than me. Where did you go to school? Did they teach you any grammar? How much do you think most people retained?
I think the problem is with not having to do one’s own handwriting as much as in the past. Phone applications and computer programs have built in spell corrections. The mistake I notice the most is then instead of than. It seems a lot of people don’t even know there are different spellings. Unfortunately languages evolve through changes like that and it may end up that we do away with the word than altogether.

I don't insist on perfection, but the 80% correct threshold I insist on is far above the illegible garbage the zoomer generation prefer to engage in.11 Reply- +1 y
This is very fair. I don’t expect perfection either
453 opinions shared on Dating topic. Grammar was and will always be a thing where real decisions are taken and real money is involved that is formal settings. Remember it's always the older generations who control the political and economic decisions of any country and to impress upon them you need to speak their language which involves proper grammar.

+1 yGrammar is only a thing in formal or important situations. Writing a paper for example. Writing a letter or email to a boss or relative. Long as it is possible to understand what they are saying grammar becomes just an extra step. I only bother with grammar when dealing with work related things outside that though not much point
