If they're a native speaker and do any of the following mistakes, I can't take them seriously and will look down on them:
"Your awesome" (correction: you're awesome)
"There bags are over they're" (correction: Their bags are over there)
"Its defiantly a warm day" (correction: It's definitely a warm day)
"There not coming" (correction: They're not coming)
"Is you're favourite colour blue?" (correction: Is your favourite colour blue?"
I've seen all of these mistakes made by people that have English as their first language. It's quite pathetic because this is easy grammar.
P. S - I'd turn a Russian woman down on the accent alone. I hate that accent lol.
It really varies.
If I know English is her second language, than no, it's not a turn off. Hell, if anything, her being capable of speaking more than one language is sexy.
Now, if English is her primary language and her poor grammar comes from ignorance or laziness, then it's definitely a turn off.
Most sensible opinion here. Thank you!
You're quite welcome!
If I may, what prompted this question?
Because English is my second language and I make errors sometimes.
Ah, anyone judging you on that is foolish. I only speak English, and even then I occasionally fuck it all up. Plus, English can be an absolute pain to learn for non-native speakers, or so I have been told. Are you Russian? I only ask because of the example you gave.
No I’m not lol just an example I thought of that’s all but I am from Europe.
May I ask where in Europe? I'm in the US, Maine to be specific, and if I start talking fast I have a terrible regional accent that shines through the nails down a chalkboard.
For a time I knew a bit of French, basic pleasantries and whatnot, but that was because I was working of a French FOB in Afghanistan for a few months. Once I stopped speaking it regularly I forgot it.
This is the correct answer.
@Thatsamazing thank you!
Depends. If English is the only language you know and you can't even write/type it properly, it is a huge turn off. But if it isn't your first language, then that's a different story. We all make mistakes. But people who type like retards on purpose aren't cute.
I would excuse the guy if he's not a native speaker, if he isn't that capable with English, if it's a typo or a mistake of texting quickly, but there aren't any other excuses. Grammar is a very important thing because it speaks about who the person is.

Yes! I give a lot of leeway if you are a recent immigrant (within 10 years), but for people born in the United States, there is no excuse for not being able to speak properly.
There are at least a dozen languages spoken in the US. While there is no legally defined official language, English is the de facto standard. (Ironically "de facto" is a latin phrase). The US got by quite well for the first 200 years with English as the language for nearly all official communications. Schools in the United States teach English first and recommend students to pick a foreign language to study (usually Spanish, French, Latin or another language that is popular in the region where the school is located). For comparison, Canada has two official languages which are English and French.
Walter is right.
@WalterBlack most commonly... commonly... Louisiana is french too etc etc look I'm non-us... I clearly don't need wiki lmfao
If I permanently moved to Germany or France or Spain, I could probably get by for a while because there is a good number of people in those countries who speak English. But I would definitely make it a priority to learn the local language if I was going to spend the rest of my life in one of those countries. It is not hypocritical. If you are going to live in the US, then learn English. If you are going to live in Germany, then learn German.
I agree, @WalterBlack.
Very. I like being able to read or understand what the other person is saying, not have to decipher every other word.
And I REALLY hate "text talk," that's a big turn off as well
If she is a native English speaker, poor grammar would reflect a low level of educational achievement and that would be a turn off. If she speaks English as a second language, Я буду слушать ее сладкие слова и игнорировать ее ошибки.
Only if she is a native speaker
Correct answer
I didn't think of that
Honestly, I would not date someone if it meant there is going to be any sort of a language barrier between us.
In fact, I prefer someone whose speech and diction is levels above the average person.
Communication is such an important part of a relationship.
A partner misinterpreting the tone, coming across as accidentally insensitive (and vice versa) or simply just failing to interpret their feelings and thoughts effectively because they aren't well versed in the language, it is a huge strain on the relationship that is going to unnecessarily complicate a lot of things.
It is not worth it.
I voted yes, but I meant to vote no. I'm not wearing glasses and I'm a 200ml of everclear into the night
I find it very cute. Both my parents and my girlfriend do this. My parents and girlfriend speak English as a second+ language, so I don't expect them to speak it perfectly. Grammar issues make me feel at home.
For me not at all. Well, English is not my first language so maybe that's a part of the reason. But I've traveled to many different cultures with many different languages and I always found that what counts is communication on some deeper level, and that doesn't require perfect grammar. In fact, you can find someone with perfect grammar in any language and still no ability to communicate on a deeper level.
I voted yes before I saw the update. If English is not your first language, I would definitely take that into consideration. However, if you move to an English speaking country, you should make an effort become fluent in the language within a few years.
I like to have an intellectual conversation with the person I want to be with. I don't like having to decipher what they're trying to convey.
If I just want to have sex, it doesn't bother me at all. It's not like women are able to hold a conversation when being penetrated.
Me love you long time I show you heaven. 🤣
If it was someone who didn't speak it as their native language, of course not. But if English is your first language and you went to an English- speaking school and are still making errors like a second grader, I'm gonna assume that you're at least a little dense.
Well I wouldn't reject a hot Russian if she isn't a native speaker, in that case I don't see a big problem. Im Portuguese and I find a lot of people speaking wrong even being native speakers. I think it's acceptable if we see some improvement with time, or if the person it's willing to learn. At some specific situations it can be very annoying. Anyways when it comes to a relationship it can be really significant.
Bad grammar honestly drives me nuts. I'm a perfectionist and a control freak and I can't handle bad grammar. I'm so conflicted, because I know there's so many valid reasons for people to have bad grammar, but I just can't stand it.
No for me it’s cute seeing her try 😂I’ll help her with her English skills plus it’s also a benefit you get to learn a new language I once dated a German thanks to her I learned Deutsche English isn’t my first language so I understand the struggles I’ve been there before
It depends on if you are a native speaker or not. If you grew up in America and can't manage to actually speak English, we have a problem. If as you said you're a Russian girl with a thick accent, it's probably cute.
It's a definite turn off except when English is the person's second language, in which case I give them lots of credit. What really bugs me is "text" language. Some people need to learn grammar.
It depends. If English isn't their first language then it probably wouldn't bother me. If English is their first language then it would almost certainly be a turn off!
If English is his first language, and he lives in an English speaking country, I kind of expect him to have alright grammar. English is my third language, and I feel I’m doing okay?
You have perfect grammar.
No, someone that wasn't born & raised speaking the language gets a pass, for the most part. It's people that are SUPPOSED to know how to speak and spell the language that get the thumbs down.
Their English is good
I should let them teach me as well.
but they have different accent that is strange
I think there is only one accent base on mother language
but they have many.
I think women attempting my native language are brave enough as it is; how often are you stoutly grammarians attempting to speak new languages in public?
If you're not speaking your native language, I find grammar errors cute, entertaining, and endearing as long as the speaker can endure a little teasing.
As long as i could understand them, i'd overlook it. They may have a learning disability , or they might not have had the privilege of a good education... for whatever reason
Only of your native language is English, then yes. Same for all others... one should know their mother language well! Spoken and written.
For example, Ariana grande types like an idiot. Rn tho u etc.
Hmm, not in every country of course, but I consider it a turn off with Dutch people (especially my age)... I don't know I just feel like you should at least know the basic English grammar😅
As a native English speaker from the UK, if it’s a foreigner whose first language is not English I will make allowances, but if the person is from somewhere where English is native e. g. UK, NZ, Aus, USA it can bug the hell out of me.
I've been around foreigners my whole life, and I know how difficult it is for them to speak a language that is not their own, but if English is your native language, and you can't string a sentence together, it is a definite turn-off!
No I dont think it is at all
Especially if they aren't a native speaker
Who cares about grammar if the essence of what they are saying is good, profound, or of value
Depends on if its your native language or not. For me, English is the third language I learned therefore I'm far from being perfect here.
If you don’t speak English fluently, I let it slide but if you are a native speaker, too many errors gets annoying.
Big turn off. A few strictly grammatical errors here and there I could live with, but if they have a thick accent as well as grammatical errors it's a deal breaker.
English isn't everyone's first language. If it is then I'd be a bit put off but it won't be a turn off.
And even still, what matters is what kind of a person she is. Plus I could teach her better English.
I think it can be quite cute for the opposite sex to be trying...
To your update, it is a turn off but mainly for those that English is their native language. I don't expect someone whose native tongue isn't English to have amazing grammar.
No it is not.
It is ok to have poor English grammar everyone once in a while can have that
I'm not European, nor American.
I'm south Asian.
so Poor English isn't a turn off for me. cos my English is also not so good.
Only if its their native language. And even then, it has to be really obvious.
unless they had a good excuse, it's a huge turnoff.
Nope, i don't mind girls with poor grammar or poor English
i would still like them. It's not turn off trust me :-D :-P :-)
Doesn't matter as long as I can understand what they are saying. Not all people are born to speak English and people need to respect that instead of trashing others for their bad grammar. 🤦🏻♀️
If its your native language then you should be able to speak it.
If its not, then its understandable.
If she's new to the country the no I can understand she's still learning the language but if you've been here like ten or twelve years that's a major turn off
Yes! I hate reading texts that r grammatically incorrect. Makes my brain hurt trying to place pauses in sentences and judging where a sentence begins and ends.
Regarding the update: you didn't say we were talking about immigrants. That's different.
Nooo Russians accents are sexy but if some hoodrat who lives near me talked with bad grammar then yea a complete turn off
Yes, unless she's not a native English speaker. If she IS a native English speaker and has terrible grammar, then yes it is a turn off.
Yes. Note, a strong accent is not the same as poor grammar. In fact most people who learn English as a second language have better grammar because they learn it formally.
If it's a native English speaker, then yes. Poor grammar is an INSTANT turn-off.
If she's a hot foreign girl, I will be a good Samaritan and offer her ESL lessons. Private ESL lessons.
In a native speaker absolutely, in someone who English is a second language not a big deal.
It really is, especially if it's a native speaker.
Maybe not as much as if it's a second language though, with a few exceptions.
If someone's first language is not English, I am forgiving. But if you're native language is English, than you better not screw it upop!
Yeah it's a turn off. Communication is important, so if bad grammar gets in the way of that, it's a problem.
If you don’t know the difference between ‘you’re’ and ‘your’, it’s a goodbye from me.
Same here. I can't stand seeing those mistakes made. "There, their, they're" as well.
You kidding? Hell no.
I don't know what kind of weirdos are turned off by a bad grammar...
A young blond hot, intelligent, nice and Russian woman with a bad grammar would probably kill em' then...
Huge turn off if English is her native tongue. Otherwise, I'm not overly concerned
As long as I can understand what's being said I don't care
not really, she's another human with feelings, if im interested then she would get a chance
It would be a turn off if she had horrible mistakes
Depends on how much and whether it's on purpose or not. I usually don't mind.
You could communicate in grunts and growls. I don't care; as long as I understand.
If it's not her first language and she isn't taught that from the beginning then yeah! It's acceptable.
