lol I do that a lot.
while it is a definite necessity that s/he not rely on slang for the bulk of their vocabulary, it's also necessary that they aren't such delusional snobs that they look down on slang in general. I can't take you seriously, if you take yourself that seriously. I'll just end up laughing at you and being annoyed at how ridiculous you are.
However, if that's the ONLY way you know how to text, then we have do have a problem.
What does annoy me is when people online, or through text, type LIKE THIS THE ENTIRE TIME, wHeN tHeY tYpE LiKe ThIs, whheenn thheeyy insisstttt oonn tyypinng likkee thiisss, etc. I've literally replied, "I'm gonna need you to re-text that in a manner that doesn't make me want to punch you in the face."

Yes. It's lazy and embarrassing. I will still be your friend, but I'm not about to date a guy who can't be bothered to try to spell things correctly. I had a guy friend who always spelled "know" "no" and it was so irritating, because how hard is it just to spell something out? It takes maybe a second more.
It's not a turn off to use texting abbreviations. It's a turn off for me when a guy can't spell simple words like and, take, hi, etc... Because then I can't understand what they are saying.
For the most part, yes it is unattractive. I'm somewhat OK with it being used in chats or texts since those are real time events for the most part . There is also the issue of character limit on text messaging. For it to not be unattractive I need to know that they know how to and do use proper grammar.
I detest when people write long term messages that way. (E-mail, wall posts, etc.)
u, r, y, jk, yw. I dislike them all, it just makes the person sound a tad ghetto to me. It baffles me how some people actually write entire paragraphs in slang. I guess it's only acceptable when you're typing on a some horrible devices like an old phone or micro keyboard.

I find it a huge turn off if the person doesn't at least know how to spell correctly. I'm fine with spelling/grammar/punctuation mistakes, because they happen to all of us . . . but I find it a turn off when it happens constantly. I wouldn't say it's a deal break per se, but it's definitely a turn off that could lead to being a deal breaker if completely ignored. I knew this girl that would always spell "sure" like "shure", and I had a tough time keeping a conversation with her because of it.
I b lik wtf you talkn bout and she b lik you rways havn probs undstand me. She put "ROFL, BFFAD. BHL"
I thouht she said "Rollin on floor laughin. Butt-f*** Friday all day. Butt-hurt later"
She ment "Rollin on floor laughin. Best-friend 4evah @ disco. Be home l8r."
Woops.
I don mind gramar.I despise bad grammar. Nothing says "I'm a total moron" better than horrid grammar.
A couple mistakes isn't a big deal, but if the entire thing is littered with mistakes, then yeah, that's annoying.
Grammar Nazis unite!Personally, I can't stand it when people do that. Because it looks like you don't care enough to take the time to write out the whole word. But the biggest thing that irritates me is when people screw up you're and your. Good grammar= better chance.
If it's written on a phone, then I really don't care. If it's typed with an actual keyboard, then I expect it to be a real sentence - that is, proper grammar, punctuation, and so forth.
Sometimes, type in English not slang. no made up words. Short hand is OK. Don't invent new ways to spell sh*t tho. I hate that. Before you say it yes I'm a lazy Internet writer.
Yes, definitely. Its not a deal breaker but it'll definitely turn me off. When I was 14, that language was fine. But now I'm way too old to be dealing with it. Also, its just lazy to me.
Hmm.. I find it kind of annoying to be honest when people use "r" or "u". I mean it's not a deal-breaker unless they legitimately think words are actually spelt with numbers now that's annoying.
It is. I try to let it slide especially if I really like the guy.
Although my fwb/crush tends to use *u* and *r* ,but I always let it slide because he's a busy guy.YES. That's one of my big pet peeves. Its not necessarily a deal breaker, but I'm definitely not going to like it.
It makes them feel like they don't matter enough to the person to type a whole word out.
nah.. it doesn't bug me at all.. I do it all the time.. I'd be a hypocrite if I said it bugged me.
a bit is okay but don't overdo it I think "how are u?" is okay but I don't like things like "c you l8er" or "luv you 2"
and mixing numbers in itIt's not a complete and total deal breaker, but it is annoying to see and read.
yes bad grammar is a big turn off to me. if it is "u" or "r" I can deal but if it is big phrases or you just sound unintelligent, I can't deal
I am extremely turned off by incorrect/ poor grammar.
My ex girlfriend dumped me because I was using bad grammer while sexting
F*** yeah, it makes people look so stupid.
