Gaslighting is when some malevolent, manipulative sociopath tries to get you to doubt your own ability to discern the truth, question your understanding of reality, and generally doubt your own sanity.

As an example here on gag in the past I’ve tried to discuss a political question with the asker in good faith. But after a few replies they result in slurs or character attacks instead of sharing facts for their side. Once I can judge they are trying to attack my character I may choose to gaslight them to display to others their cruelty and lack of respect
