try to make acquaintances first... and not to get in their jeans right away
I never try to "get in their jeans" i approach them like a friend and try to work my way towards a date. I usually succeed in getting to the date part, they just ghost me the day of or the day before the scheduled date.

I met every one in person and gave them my number so they had the choice of initiating contact.
