Am I asking too much?

My boyfriend of 6 months and I haven't travelled together before and now we're going on a business trip to another state (both our dates collide). I was excited to learn our dates collided so I asked if we could extend our stay for another day just to explore the state, but he isn't interested.

The airfare is covered by our companies (we're just travelling on another day to what was previously assigned), the extra day for accomodation will be covered by us.

It depends what you're planning to do with the extra day. The work travel dates *COINCIDE and he's possibly happy to travel with you, but he's possibly anticipating needing to be with his "work family" for the duration of the trip... also the hotel and airfare set up might be covered by the company and therefore not open to being changed for him... Asking might be too big a deal for him to ask his boss.

If YOUR company is willing to pay for an extra day of hotel and airfare for BOTH of you etc., then perhaps that might change things, but in my opinion he's probably just thinking about compliance and expectations of his professional obligation.

Can't you ask him to travel together outside of work? Was this the only time of the year that your schedules *COINCIDED?

He doesn't like spending too much and he prefers travelling after marriage then before.

Not necessarily, it just kind of depends on what his reasons are for not wanting to (Ex. if he has an event he has to get home for, he has trouble traveling, etc)

Without knowing the circumstances, it's hard to say whether this is a hard ask. Does he have plans that conflict with the extended vacation? Does he have a big payment due soon / living paycheck to paycheck?

I personally wouldn't have an issue with the extension, but he probably had a reason for shooting it down that you might not be aware of

Not asking too much at all. Six months is completely normal for taking trips together. Especially a little continuation of an existing work trip. You should really try to communicate with him about it. There could definitely be a valid reason he can't do it.

I couldn't imagine turning down my girlfriend for a single day that she wants to spend in a situation like that. Something doesn't seem right.
