1 yIt’s never came up in a date and if it did I would expect mutual respect over beliefs and opinions. I would also never expect to agree with a partners political opinions in every way or even want that , challenge and opposing views can be good.
Where it would be challenging and unhealthy would be extreme views , far right views or the belief that drastic actions are needed to push agenda’s. I have experience of people like that in my wider social circle and very recently too with our troubles in the uk.10 Reply

They bought a house together and she went away to fix up the house she bought, and while she was busy doing that he met someone else and 11 days before they were supposed to move in together he married the other woman.
Fast forward 14 years she still loved him and he divorced that other woman and moved in with my friend.
Well, this when politics just started to get pretty hairy. This was 2015-6. Trump and Hillary.
My friend is a staunch democrat and he was a republican.
Need I say, after everything they had been through she kicked him out and divorced him.

Anonymous(25-29)1 yTwo civil and mature adults should have no problem doing that. I could date someone of the opposite opinions so long as they're not one of those people who are entirely consumed by politics 24/7 and make their life about it, as I tend to prefer not to get into the topic much.

1 yOpposing views is a large reason for conflict in a relationship. While I admit it's difficult to find a relationship where you agree with your partner on the majority of topics, if you disagree on too many views that are related to your core beliefs, it's not likely that it will work out. In this particular case, I would say it depends on how strongly they feel about that view. If it's something they feel really strongly about and it can cause them to view me negatively and I them, then I would say no. But if it's something they don't care too much about, but still hold the view to an extent, I would say yes.

00 ReplyIt depends how opposing their views are. I'm fairly centrist but have strong feelings about a lot of topics. If they oppose those feelings (like with wanting guns and drugs fully legalized) I probably just won't get along with them. I don't care how they feel about abortion or global warming or most fiscal policies. Because we don't control that stuff anyway. We just live our own lives the way we see fit.
I'll make one caveat that "woke" isn't a political ideology, it's a hate group. I wouldn't be able to get along with anyone that supports that level of discrimination, just like I couldn't be with a white supremacist or any-race supremacist. It would be exhausting. Same thing about modern feminism or the PUA community. These people are hateful and obsessed and they don't get along with anyone that doesn't follow their belief system.10 Reply- 320 opinions shared on Dating topic.
1 yDepends on what type of republican. I think i might have said yes to this when asked a while back but lately I think it would be more difficult to date someone who is a avid Trump supporter.
One easy way for me to say no thank you to dating a republican is if they can't admit the 2020 election wasn't rigged and that Trump lost. That's a ok we don't need to talk anymore. It's not debatable and that kind of person 4 years later still thinking this, can't be reasoned with, nor should I have to convince them. I can't deal with the disillusionment any more.

1 yOnly if we are able to fully and amicably discuss issues without emotion. If she believes her views and actually backs them up with logic and data then we can disagree on certain things.
However, if she gets angry or emotional and resort to ad hominems when I press against their views and ask her fair questions, well then it will not work. Which is how it is for most women politically around my age.
I am always open to change though through actual debate based on logic and data...

u 1 yI'm married, so it's not a concern for me, as my wife and I agree on most political things.
If I were single though, I wouldn't date someone who has opposing views. It's not because of hatred, intolerance, or anything. It's because I have values and beliefs I'd want to pass on to our children.

1 yNo. I’m very passionate about my views. And a lot of people think politics is “just an opinion” but your political views has almost everything to do with who you are as a person.
We can disagree on things like pizza toppings but disagreeing on politics that affect the rights and lives of human beings, we cannot just agree to disagree.

1 yThat depends what they're opposed to and why. I would never date a Trump supporter - they've got a screw loose somewhere. Prior to the R's bowing down to his bullshit, I dated a Conservative woman or two with opposing viewpoints, but they were intelligent and able to articulate their positions well. We ultimately disagreed on too many things, but at least they were educated and informed, unlike today's maga's and most any Conservative I speak to.

1 yNo I couldn't date someone with different political views because it would ultimately end up in nasty arguments about everything going on in the world. No one should waste their time trying.
10 ReplyPeople can have all sorts of opposing political views and still be desirable. That said, anyone that is still a Democrat is mentally retarded. I don't date retards.

00 ReplyWould depend on the degree of discrepancy. We’d have to share values and we’d have to be close enough that it wouldn’t always be a fight. Other than that some disagreements are fine.
