Guy came back years after rejecting me. Should I give him a shot?

So there was this guy whom I liked/had an attraction to 5 years ago. Back then, I told him (after we had flirted around a bit and met up and I thought there was a mutual attraction) that I hoped to get to know him better, and he basically rejected me by evading the question, saying it was "nice to meet me and good luck". I didn't see him after for those 5 years because he moved away. I also kind of forgot about him.

But recently, he reached out to me out of the blue on social media. He said that he made a mistake back then, and he rejected me due to his own issues rather than not actually liking me. That he did like me and he's sorry he made me feel like he wasn't interested. He said he would like to give it a fair shot with me and asked to meet up.

I'm not sure what to think. I don't know him nowadays so I don't quite know if I'm interested. He seems like a nice guy, but I'm also wondering why he would reach out after years of not knowing each other.

Do you think I should give this another try? I did like him back then or at least felt an attraction towards him, and we seem to have some things in common. But I don't know if I should.
