Well…. There’s a few reasons. Number one. He looses interest there’s a number of reasons why he would which I will get to later.

Another reason is she’s taken, if she has a boyfriend, husband, etc. Then if he’s a decent human being he’s gonna back off. Also, if he’s taken. If he has a girlfriend, wife, the list goes on he’s going to back off as well, if he’s a decent person.

Why would a man loose interest? There’s TONS of reasons. I’m sure there are guys that you have lost interest in before as well.

One reason is that another woman catches his attention, another reason is that once he gets to know you he figures out that you’re not compatible with him, other times it could be a personality thing maybe he likes you as a friend but you’re not someone he would want to be romantically with. The list goes on. Maybe it was a attraction that came and gone Sometimes that happens to me where I find someone attractive but the feelings pass

Another possible reason is that he’s not ready for something else at the time. Maybe he finds you attractive but he isn’t ready for something.

Another reason. You’re too big of a risk… If he thinks that acting on his feelings for you has too high of a risk. He may opt to friend zone you. Every person is different as who they see as risky all the way up to off limits. It could be for example. You’re his best friends sister. If things go wrong…. Is it worth it? Another example is his sisters best friend. Is the risk worth it? The risk of being rejected. How awkward it would be. Embarrassing. Especially when you’re gonna see this person a lot. It could make his sister/best friend angry.

There’s also the risk of things go rigjt at first. You get together. But there’s a nasty breakup. What could go wrong? A lot…

My guess would be , he has low self esteem about himself and he probably feels she is out of his league and feels she wouldn’t stay loyal and faithful to him , since he considers her very attractive. Most guys’ are territorial over a girl he really likes , so he is probably assuming she would eventually leave him for someone else. I knew a guy that only got into relationships with beautiful girls’ , girls’ that received a lot of attention from other men as well. Every one of those girls’ ended up cheating on him with another guy that she felt was better than him , so eventually he decided to only date girls ‘ that weren’t out of his league , and now he is happily married to a girl that stays loyal to him.

1. Some folks (guys or girls) are too intimidated by some a person to actually want to date them, so they friendzone.

2. Some folks don't want to stir up a mess at work, so anyone from the office is friendzoned by default.

3. Some folks find a person intellectually stimulating but not necessarily attractive enough to date (OR attractive enough but not smart enough to date) and so they friendzone these individuals.

I have never heard of a guy doing that if he really likes the girl and finds her attractive. In your case, I think your friend kind of likes you but not that much and doesn’t want to risk your friendship by dating you in case the relationship goes badly.

We are not ruled by our genitals.  Sometimes there are people who are objectively attractive and you can acknowledge that.  You also happen to click with them, but not in a romantic/sexual way.

It's a lot easier to talk to a woman if you friend zone them first. It takes all the pressure off. It also is a way to build interest. If you're wondering what the guy is thinking, you're letting him live rent free in your head and you're trying to figure him out. I think its cause both men and women simply stink at communication. Most 20 year olds and even 30 year olds are socially awkward the result most don't know how to communicate anyways. The result of this causation is the friendzone just got deeper.

I don't know if friendzone is the correct word, but the reason why many men won't date a woman they are attracted to is these days is because many guys have gotten involved with a similar woman and it turned into a nightmare.
