Why is there a preconception that young people are too complacent when everyone I know works their asses off to make a living?

Most of the young people I know have barely worked and only started working in their 20s. I started working as a sophomore in highschool. In my personal experience, it's difficult to find gen Z people that want to work full time, and for a long term. Their resumes are often really weak, even considering how much fluff is in them. These are our personal experiences though, and these create a bias. I'd like to see official stats before cheering for, or condemning, an entire generation.

There are lots of young people who are completely inept, lazy and incompetent.

But there are just as many who are competent, driven and very hardworking.

Its just that one group is much more vocal then the other.

I start people at $30/hour and I can barely get those under 30-years-old because they don't want to take the one day notary class.

Probably things like this, social media. It gives the IMPRESSION that your generation fritters away it's time retreating into a make believe world rather than building in the real world.
