Why are the majority of modern young people so self centered and financially irresponsible? Shouldn't parents be teaching their kids this stuff?

Probably because their parents are self centered and irresponsible, too.

My generation are the ones raising these kids, and my generation sucks. Although, to be fair, nobody ever taught us how to be responsible, either. We either had to figure it out, ourselves, and fortunately some of us did, or not.

Not to mention the younger members of my generation were the beginning of the "participation trophy" era, where they were taught that "every child is a winner" which is a load of crap. All that did was protect kids from learning they aren't special.

Then they passed down that narcissistic mentality to their children. Add in the rise of social media (which, again, my generation was responsible for, sorry), and you have a recipe for entitlement.

So, yeah; basically our parents failed us, so we're just passing along that failure, and making it worse.

Parents should but I think you have made a huge generalization. I know plenty of people younger than me with strong money sense.

I think broken families and a greedy society that demands people work to survive and don't consider parenting a job puts so much pressure on parents that they don't have time to teach their kids. And kids don't listen. The world is full of so much instant gratification and technology it's also hard to control how kids act when they suddenly gain control over their own choices.

People aren't the same, though it is true that the circumstances have changed as well. It has become far too easy to rely on the government for food and shelter. The mass majority of Americans are lazy and live off of tax dollars

The majority? That's far from true. Maybe the majority in the red states. Meanwhile the blue states are working to support the red states.
