If you’re bad with words, would you use AI to generate text messages to send to your significant other?

My little brother is bad with words. He just confessed to me that he sends AI generated good morning texts to his girlfriend. She found out earlier this morning and called him angry about the situation. She lost respect for him and is questioning everything. He’s asking me for advice and feels like this relationship might be over. I’d never think about doing such a thing and I don’t know what to tell him.

If you were in my shoes, what would you tell him?

I believe beginners are always bad at what they do. It's okay to sound and look stupid when you first begin something you are not trained in because everybody who is an expert began as a weak and incompetent novice. I mean olympic athletes used to crawl on their bellies as infants. Everyone is dumb when they first learn something new.

Advise him to confess the truth to her. If he thinks he's not good at expressing himself, he should explain that he did it to make her happy, and perhaps he doesn't find himself to be the most eloquent guy? Though, If she wants to leave over that then he needs to be prepared and perhaps take it as a lesson in future relationships to not turn to ai or perhaps find someone who would not be all up in arms over it.

She dumped him after he apologized and promised to be genuine going forward. He told me that he was being lazy and that’s why he chose AI. I hope he takes time to think and will be genuine with the next girl.

He is basically discovering that using such artefacts doesn't boost his personality at all, it just makes him going into cringe territory. It's a real life lesson here. Aside from him just learning this lesson, as the big bro, I think you could have a tactful chat with him, on the topic of insecurity. Not to patronize, but to understand why his insecurity is skyrocketing to this point.

So we had a chat. His excuse was that he was being lazy. I told him to apologize to her, acknowledge her feelings, understand her point of view, and reassure her that he’ll never do it agin. He did all that and she still dumped him. I hope he learns from this.

That's rather sad both ways. Him for not developing the right social skills, and her for not being mature enough to see he's trying harder than most, despite his short comings.

She's probably more embarrassed than angry, as she's feeling her emotions were toyed with. He needs to explain how he really feels and that GPT was just a crutch to help him say it better.

It's a fork in his road. He now has two choices. Throw away his phone entirely to reject AI and internet as a symbol of devotion to his future wife. Or, the polar opposite, swap the girlfriend for assimilating androids with alluring breasticles.
