Why do some marry spouses incapable of empathy?

I have met many people who decided to marry people who lack empathy, super selfish.

I personally find people who lack empathy to be very unpleasant and incapable of maintaining healthy, respectful relationships with others. Healthy relationships require consideration for other people's feelings. You cannot acheive this if you're incapable of empathy.

Im just curious. Why do people decide to narry such awful people?

Because that's how they were raised, and it seems normal. They are suspicious of people who treat them kindly.

I can only think that they didn't get to know them well enough before they got married or that it was a more physical attraction.

I dont think so. Lack of empathy isn't hard to detect especially if you've been dating for at least a year.

Some women are attracted to power. My stepmom is with a guy who has no empathy but she likes powerful, controlling guys. He doesn't let her talk without interrupting her (and everyone) all the time.
