I've been in a long distance relationship with a guy from Illinois since February. I wasn't really looking for anything serious when I started talking with him so it definitely didn't bother me when he said he was poly. I just wanted someone to text, but we started clicking so well that I started to feel like we were pretty good friends.
I loaned him some money during an emergency, and later said jokingly if he wanted to just put what he owed me towards a plane ticket that he wouldn't have to pay me back and we could finally get to meet. He did and we spent a week together getting to know each other. In the end we got really close, but I still wanted to consider us casual because he said he was poly. He ended up saying he loved me a few days before he had to leave and he had come down to see if we could have a serious relationship. I said I wasn't comfortable saying it back bc we just met, and didn't expect him to get serious. He said he would love to be with just me and move in eventually when we were ready.
When he got back he said he really liked me and never felt like this even though he'd been with many women. I reminded him that he said he was poly so there's no point in getting serious because I'm not into that. He stopped dating apps and the women he talks to were ones that were before me and that they're just friends nothing serious. He said he had just said he was poly because he didn't click with other women like with me.
I feel like there's truth in what he says and he spends almost 100% of his time on the phone with me. He sporadically mentions his other women friends when we talk. I'm trying not to feel insecure about his relationships with them since we do spend so much time together, but I get triggered when he randomly mentions them.
I just don't want to keep feeling this way when he moves in. I don't know if I'm just feeling paranoid or if there's truth to it. I was married for 15 years to an ultra loyal guy but he passed away two years ago.
