Why do some people ask for advice if they are not going to like what you have to tell them?

"Some" people don't actually ask for advice but receive it anyway from those who may mistakenly think that it has been requested of them.
I see that happen all too often.
In fact, I just extricated myself from such a situation, thankfully, with no hard feelings on either side.

For those who do truly request advice and then go on to reject it, that's their prerogative.

Maybe said advice will not work for their circumstances.
It can be very difficult to adequately convey all aspects of a situation when one is seeking advice, yet those thoughts are in the advice-seekers mind, calculating the feasibility of given advice and rejecting it for valid reasons that may be unknown to the giver of the advice.
Again, that's been my recent experience, as well.

Maybe a lot of different reasons could account for their rejection of advice, up to and including not being able to see the benefits of the advice as being sound and potentially effective.
Me again, in some cases.

If someone is asking for advice, that's already an indication that they may be having trouble thinking adequately as compared to how they might otherwise be able to.
Yep, me again.

Or maybe they need a kick in the ass.
I'm not the one to make those types of judgements, though.

Many people either want sympathy or they just want to vent their spleen.

Cause they are smart enough to know they are being dumb but to stubborn and small minded to listen.

a lot like to do the opposite of advice. Like asking your boyfriend what dress and choosing the other one

They don’t have to like the advice but they should appreciate that you are only giving your opinion and be at least respectful that’s it’s just a point of view

Because they "think" that nobody is gonna tell them any "offensive" words... they cannot handle the truth...

Because they may not actually want advice. People have different motivations for asking questions and those include seeking attention, boredom, venting, and other things where they didn’t want an honest answer

Many who ask for advice really just want to hear, "You are right." rather than actual advice.

They are looking for someone to validate their own position
