The moment we agreed to move in together, way before we married each other, we've consolidated our household expenses with a joint checking account whose sole purpose is to pay for bills and common miscellaneous household expenses. We'd leave a bit of the leftover in that interest-earning checking account carried over for the next month for "operating capital" and transfer bits of that to a joint savings account to earn interest.
We also went in business together. Obviously, the same concept was adapted.
When we got married, the only things that changed or our joint personal & business accounts were the filing status and my name with his last name added.
