Who should make the first move?

I’m being courted by a man who thinks I’m beautiful and very nice. I find him handsome and kind, easy to talk to (he’s an ex model, so he is hot). But I like him as a person, too.

We’ve discussed dating. We’ve both admitted to feeling shy to initiate the first kiss, if either one of us decides we want it at some point. So, who should make the first move, for the first kiss? A man or a woman?

in my opinion the guy should initiate the kiss. The girl can flirt a little or linger a little to HINT that it's a good time for a kiss, however the guy should WANT to kiss her and so be willing to initiate.

I have a friend who is constantly telling everyone the fact that her mom "caught" her dad and initiated everything, which is fine if she thinks that this is the type of relationship she wants with a guy in the future, however seeing her parents I know (1) the dad always comes to all functions alone, (2) the dad actively hugs and invites women out on his own, his wife being nowhere in site and not even mentioned at any point in the dinner, (3) the daughter is still single no matter whom she approaches. Bottom line? The fact that the mother pushed for the first EVERYTHING and made babies with the guy (who are now both in their 30s) doesn't mean that she was able to emotionally/mentally/spiritually keep the guy faithful to her... He WANTS what he WANTS. If he had been given more of a chance to CHOOSE for himself things would have been different.

These days it's fine for either the man or the woman to initiate the first kiss. It's usually the man who does it, but a lot of men would be very happy if the woman did it. :)

In short: There's no rule. Either of you can make the first move. Consider your comfort level, his personality, and the moment. Open communication is key!
