The picture you used shows the guy holding his hands over a girl’s boobs, do you mean protective as far as telling her not to dress in a revealing way? That is one category there are others.

Also I guess OVERprotective means too much, vs protective can be good.

Anyway yes it is normal for a man to be protective of his girlfriend, or other women he cares about like daughter or niece. As for OVERprotective no I don’t think that’s really normal, though opinions can be different, for example if the girl is young and wants to dress v revealingly and the guy doesn’t think that is a good idea, they might have different opinions and it could feel annoying and overprotective from the girl’s POV.

I like having a protective partner. My fiancee is very protective of me and it makes me feel safe and loved. Most guys I've dated were like that.

The problem is when it's "overprotective" and I don't mean like "make sure you text me when you get there. I mean when you won't let them leave the house with out permission.

If you are "protection" is preventing them from doing the things you want them to do, it's not being overprotective it's being controlling.

You worded that question to where what he is doing is too much. From my POV, men are a way better judge of other men than women are. When a guy believes his woman shouldn't go jogging alone at 3AM he's right 100% of the time yet women and simps will claim he's overprotective and wrong. Same for a lot of other situations. The solution is for a guy to never be in a serious relationship with a woman who doesn't want his protection. She's probably mostly concerned that he will limit her ability to get with other dudes she wants anyhow so it's a bad relationship.

I think it's a normal thing to a certain extent. I'm protective of the men in my life, so I don't think it's specific to just men. I would hope the men that care about me would be protective and stand by me because I do the same for them. Being over protective and controlling is a different story.

@NicholasRedone "Over" in my estimation is often a misnomer. People just say it's "over" protection if they don't like the person that much. Women will frequently put themselves physically in between another female and her man as a way of mate-guarding. Men will frequently ask their women to not dress so scantily indicating to other men that she may be available. As examples. Most people understand this and accept it from the person they love. If; however, you don't like the person that much and are trying to portray yourself as single because you're looking for a better option you will say it's overprotective. That's at least how I tend to think of it.
