Is it normal for men to not to make a move on the first date?

I guess I’m used to a certain type of man I’ve dated in which when we go out the first time, they have gone in for a kiss. With this guy I went out with last night, he didn’t.
We even played a game in which he asked if he won what would he get. I joked and said a hug? He said I could do better than that, so I said a kiss? And gestured to my cheek. He said I could do better than that again lol. I said wowww.. another drink? And he said that was more like it lol. When he took me home, we gave me a hug while in the car. I feel like I sort of gave him the green light to go in. I may be too accustomed to moving fast

It's not "not making a move" just because he hasn't kissed you. Most likely he's done other things like say something meaningful to you or try to hold your hand or something. If you were oblivious to those it's most likely he thought you weren't into it so he refrained from kissing (or was shy about doing it).

You had your chance and you killed the mood with your response by evading mentioning a real kiss as the prize. He may have taken that as a lack of interest. So he gave you the hug you offered him and metaphorically shook your hand goodnight.

Possibly. I would argue between the two of us that I’m the one that has shown more interest romantically though. I’ve complimented him, he hasn’t complimented me really and since then I mentioned us doing something again. So there’s no reason for him to think that in my opinion. Also while on a date, I don’t know what he would’ve expected me to say he gets in return for winning given that I barely know him and we weren’t hungry so I couldn’t offer food😂

The point isn't being practical. It's being playful. Men, well decent men, are conditioned to try but put the brakes on if a woman does not show any enthusiasm for playfulness or romance. Not a crime by any means. But, he may have heard NO and just decided to let it go with a hug. We aren't mind readers.
