There isn't a threshold as in "this person is too unattractive to date"

Everyone has their own personal thresholds though. But... generally dating profiles are not overly detailed. So all anyone has to go on at first, is how you look and a (usually surprisingly uninformative) blurb about a person. So yes, it works... just as you've described in your question description. I'm not sure I'm understanding what it is you're asking though

That's hard to answer. I think the answer is "yes". But that threshold isn't really defineable.

Because for one thing people are multifaceted people are not just looks, people are not just personality, people are not just thier education, people are not just thier income, etc. I could keep going but you get the idea. The point IS, you and I will look at the same woman differently because the mix you look for in a woman Will not be the same mix I look for in a woman.

And yes I get that your question specifically just said LOOKS. But all these other factors will affect the way you view someone. So it WILL affect how attractive you find them.

But any level of looks can be repackaged into an attractive image just by putting a bit of effort into it
