Ok here’s how I see it:
When we’re kids we’re all golden retrievers to an extent. We play we run we are loud
Then we hit puberty and we become desperate to be taken seriously as adults instead of children so we begin to do a 180 and turn into black cats, because we follow your logic of mystery = maturity

But then we become actually adults and at that point there’s no need to pretend anymore

And healthy minded people recognize the value of appreciating life by nurturing their inner child. Understand that life is too short for gloomy mystery and shutting people out
So these people revert back to golden retrievers.

My ex for instance loved misery. She always needed a reason to be sad and gloomy and shut people away.
And even though I tried very hard not to create a reason for her to be so sad. She always found a way to self sabotage and sabotage the relationship (over the dumbest of things)

So I learned the hard way that true maturity is in not taking life more seriously than needed and understanding that we all have more than enough responsibilities on our shoulders so there’s no need to add any and instead we should balance it out with pleasurable activities like we did as children, hence: golden retriever mode

Golden retriever energy hands down. I've never understood why girls think it's cute to act all dark, feisty, and cruel with men all the time and always expect men to be the sun in their lives. I've had partners in the past say "I'll chop your dick off" or "You better watch yourself tonight" as a joke to me. Imagine roles reversed and I said that to them. That's the thing... I'd never say that to my partner. And I believe in the "GOLDEN" rule. (See what I did there?) Treat your partner as you want to be treated.

It's not just in the way they treat me either. I prefer to be with someone who looks like they have a passion for life and is an optimist. Someone who only uplifts others. Someone who is adventurous and fun-loving rather than being all about death and gloom.

The more positive someone is, the more I'm attracted to them, unless they're irrationally positive.

Yeah Definitely, that's accurate. However, from what I've observed, men typically don't like golden retrievers because they seem to embody qualities like weakness, kind, immature , naivety, and stupidity. There is nothing mysterious about golden retriever.
Black cats tend to come across as more mature, , mysterious, self-sufficient, and strong. There's something exciting about embracing the unknown.

The cats I've had have been sweet in temperament, loved to be petted, but weren't slavishly present all the time.

I grew up with a few Labs and German shepherds, and dogs, in general, desire human interaction.

I didn't want a pet who needs to be around all the time, and I want the freedom to come and go as I please, which is how my cats behaved.

They came home when they wanted food or affection, got their dose, then went to sleep or went outside.

I've had several cats like this, and to say that cats are "unfriendly" "aloof" and "mysterious" is a misapprehension about these animals, I believe is put forward by dog-lovers who want animals that are always around and seeking attention, affection and instruction.

There is nothing wrong with being self-sufficient, and seeking time away from others. This isn't "Introversion." Cats exhibit adult behaviors, whereas dogs exhibit child-like behaviors. If you want a perpetual child, a dog is your choice. And this is why many people choose dogs.

If you want a self-contained animal who comes to you when it needs something vs. ALWAYS wants to hang around because you are its master/mistress, then that's a dog.

This is no judgment against either animal. It's according to what type of pet you want and how it meshes with YOUR personality and the time you want to devote to pet care.

I wanted a low-maintenance pet and that's what I got with my cats. Dogs are different, as are birds, guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, real pigs.

And different breeds of dogs are diverse in temperament, too. Same with cats.

So, to mention these stereotypical descriptions of cats and dogs is a mistake.

What type of cat or dog you have means you'll have different behaviors from that animal. Cats are more independent in general. Dogs are more dependent. But breeds and how the animal was raised (rescues are sometimes emotionally damaged animals that never act normally or recover) determines how they behave.

This applies similarly to people, who are far more complex emotionally than these two pets and can't truthfully be likened to them.
