Why would you ignore someone after rejecting them?

What would be the point of purposely ignoring someone after rejecting them?

To the point of seeing them from a distance and instinctively taking a longer route around to avoid them?

Even if you didn’t want to lead them on, isn’t that a tad ridiculous.

It’s being butt hurt and immature. Does being rejected suck? Yes but if someone was respectful about it then be glad they gave you closure. Be glad that they didn’t waste your time by not giving a clear answer so that you can move on and find someone who does like you. Especially when someone has a boyfriend or a girlfriend you should respect someone whose loyal.

Now maybe if you’re not someone this person talks to all the time maybe it just feels awkward to cross paths with you. But if they’re being underly rude it’s their issue just be glad you dodged a bullet.

Thanks for this, yeah makes a lot of sense. We weren’t really talking before no. You mean awkward because he rejected me.. but why would he be bothered? Yeah it’s just annoying because I see him daily and now it’s weird to see someone run the other way, because they can’t walk past you in a normal manner anymore.

Believe it or not that could be respect for the other persons feelings. I personally would only do that if I felt like the other person wasn't able to get passed it. I mean the last thing if you call yourself friend would want to do is hurt a friend.

So you mean he would avoid me so I can get over it? Isn’t it a little harsh though to outright ignore, isn’t it possible to just be pleasant to each other without the guy thinking I still want him.

Which is why I said I would only do that if I felt she was unable to get passed it.
I wouldn't worry about it if you're handling it just fine. Just move on from the dude. If he comes back then handle it how you feel you should.
One thing life has taught me whether it's friendship or partners you can't stress over other people's actions. If a woman rejected me and then avoided me I would just accept it for what it was. I would never try to force anyone to stay in my life. Life is to short for that.

Yeah ok that makes sense, it’s a bit tricky because he is my coworker, so I see him daily. I guess with a normal person ignoring wouldn’t feel so weird, but because it’s daily I feels odd. I know what you know about not being able to control other peoples reactions though, I guess it’s just awkward at the moment,

At this point since you won’t ask him directly, the “why” doesn’t matter, so let it go. Our answers will never give you closure or make you feel any better each time you have to face him at work, and that’s just me being honest. The way I see it you now have three options: go to him directly, find a new job, or find ways to proceed through your work week without dreading each shift. I know it’s all super annoying and the avoidant nature is very immature of him but it is what it is.

Thank you, yep this is really helpful. I feel like I’ve spoken to him enough and don’t want to really go there anymore. I kind of feel like I’m pestering him if I would that, as like as I’d like to know his problem.. I’m done with it.

I get things are a bit awkward but I feel like it’s made worse through his actions and I’m not really sure why.

I think options 2 or 3 are more likely. I will try 3 in the short term. It’s just super frustrating now as his behaviour seems a little ott.
