Girls, how would you feel if a guy paid for a first date with you entirely in cash?

My wife's friend had a first date with a guy that she really likes. He took him and her to a spa for a massage, then to a nice dinner, then ended the night with a carriage ride and champagne. She had a great time but was turned off that he paid for everything in cash. She said he had to have spent over $500 for the night and wouldn't let her pay for anything. She thinks he may have been showing off, it's a possibility but I think he is doing crooked shit! I. How would you GAG ladies feel in her situation?

I'd never let anyone spend $500 on a date with me, especially not a first date. That's waaaaay too much. I'm safely done with first dates I think, but I'd insist on splitting things to avoid that entitlement guys can get about paying. Also spending that much on a date might make me think he's bad with money as that's pretty excessive. I am simpler with dates and would consider that a waste of money.

As for carrying over $500 in cash on him, I agree it seems like he may be into drug dealing or something. There are plenty of legit possibilities too but without knowing anything the guy, my first thought would be it's something hinky.

Very nice detailed opinion. Yes, $500 is way too much to spend on a first date. I am starting to think he may have been showing off for her (she is actually a very pretty girl and would be considered a "catch" to most guys). I'm thinking it's a lot easier to show off pulling out a roll of bills vs a credit card but I still wouldn't be surprised if he's into some shady dealings. I know she's suspicious because he said he owns his own business but never really elaborated lol

I wouldn't care if the guy wants to blow that much on a first date.. so be it.. I would see him again if he seemed like a normal guy. I would tell him I think it's too much and he should tone it down next time.

She did have a good time and appreciated it, she's just a little suspicious why he carrying around so much cash, that's why she's thinking/hoping he was just showing off by showing how much he's spending. I would be harder to do if you pay with a card. She is a little suspicious because he told her he owns his own business but never elaborated on exactly what it is and she figures it really isn't any of her business right now... that's when I told her he's a drug dealer.

$500 isn't that much cash.. I sometimes have $800+ on me when I take my whole pay cheque out the bank so I don't have to pay stupid fees while using my card. I don't think it is that deep.

I honestly can't remember the last time I had more than maybe 200 in cash on me. Then again, I am married and have three daughters. You get charged to use your card for regular purchases?

Yeah Canada has some shitty things like that. Service fees, also called convenience fees, can be charged by eligible merchants in Canada on specific types of transactions. They cover the costs of processing a debit or credit payment and are usually charged as a fixed cost (for example, $2.50 for all payment networks)

I know. When I first started dating, I would wanna treat her but they would always put money towards it and I was actually kind of insulted by it. To me, I felt like they thought I didn't have the money to treat them to a nice date but I never really considered their perspective. I've grown through the years and totally get it.
