What would your response be if a guy asked you to split the bill on a first date?

I prefer it that way. We're adults. I can pay for my own food. I appreciate it when he insists, it's about the gesture. But it's not really impressive or anything. You just paid for two meals instead of one. It's not a deal breaker if he doesn't want to pay or a turnoff. And because I pay for my food, I don't owe you anything. And if you pay, I still... don't owe you anything, it's a gift, a choice you decided to make. So if things don't work out, at least you only paid for your meal.

But hey if you're serious about being the provider and want me to be the housewife, abandoning my job. I would expect you to pay, not gonna lie.

If I go on a date, I tell them ahead of time if I'm on a budget so if the guy does not want to pay for me he can choose a place I can afford to pay for myself at like Tim Hortons or Jack Astors.

Not a problem. He isn't even going to have to ask with me because that is what I do on the first few dates. There is good reason for that too. I am not saying all guys or even most are like this but some think that if they pay they are entitled to some other things from me. This is especially true after a few dates. I don't want to give them the impression that I can't pay my own way or that I owe them anything for paying for me. So him asking is no issue with me.

So? I fail to see the point. If he's asking me out, he's paying for one singular date. And that's only if he wants to do something that requires money. We could always just take a walk or go to a bookstore or something.
