Would being a communist be a dating red flag for you?

Do you know what a communist is? Do you know what the alternatives are? Many U. S. citizens have been talked into a knee jerk hatred for things called "communist" or "socialist", and many would tell you that they are anti-American and not a free society. One has nothing to do with each other. The first two are economic programs and the second is a vaguely worded untruth thought up by capitalists (which is the economic system we worship so much in the U. S. The reason you hear thwe 1wC and Swords spokewn w/ such hatred is because when the "robber barons" from the gilded age saw what Marx & Engels were describing was ownership of the means of production being the workers whereas Henry Ford, Andrew Carnegie, John Rockefeller started seeing any type of worker organization to take some control over the safety, pay etc. of the jobs they do. Adam Smith, the Scot who wrote he bible of capitalism in "Wealth of Nations" is the light of their life. He stressed that an unfettered access to markets with little r no regulation is the way to prosperity. The problem developed that as soon as a couple of companies were dominating the market. When this happens the ideal of "build a better mouse trap and the world will bear a path to you door" never happened. What the tendency for the biggest players always went immediately to monopolies ( called foundations and trusts then). These companies were big enough to do, and did, try to get every other operator (at oeast in the same or similar industries) to drop out of the market by coming into a new territory and taking a deliberate hit by lowering prices until competitors can't survive) as soon as all the competitors gone the monopolies Standard Oil, Ford; US Steel can set prices and wages at any point they want. In the case of mines- and industries that were similar to mines in that they required living close to the job, they took over everything, the housing market, the grocery and charged high prices since the only alternative was driving a long way to gey to any other choice.
It gtot completely out of control when the capitalists got the government on their side. This was easy to do say in the first wrld war when many people were pulling together. Afterwards they got away with using ;local muscle or Pinkerton muscle to threaten, often harm, and way to often allowed to kill people who had no interest in communism but wanted a union so they could collectively fight for a fair wage, fair hours etc Rockefeller had about 60 women and children killed at a mining strike in Colorado, Ford woupd travel to a different eastern European country each year to find workers willing to work for $4/day to $3/day called in Pinkerton private detectives who killed a half dozen in placess he thought he could get away with it. The result today are companies like MSFT, GOOG, AMZN who are moniopolies and work with the gov't to give them whatever personal question the NSA wants in it's mainframes. I could go on but I pretty much already did. There are faults and benefits in both but Europe has had communist and socialist parties sitting in parliament for decades now with no catastrophe- at least none o the order that we currently have.
No. That wouldn't be a red flag. But I would wonder what kind of communist exactly? I could deal with a Marxist without too much trouble. It would be a bit of a red flag is she were a Leninist, or a Maoist. Although I think I would want to hear her particular take on either, before I could know that for sure.
If, for example, she were a Maoist, who could admit to the gross atrocities and excesses of the Cultural Revolution; as well as the failure of the system for growing and accounting for grain... then ok... maybe I'd be ok continuing to date her.
If she is just a communist in spirit? As in... she does not subscribe to any particular communist doctrine. As in, she does not know a Maoist from a Leninist. Rather... she is attracted to communism, because she recognizes the way capitalism exploits, and alienates... and she just wants a better, more fair world... that's a green flag.
That's a girl with her heart in the right place. A girl who I probably share some values with. I am not a communist. But I was when I was a teenager.
I think it really depends on how dogmatic a communist she is. It also depends on how committed a communist she is. I do not want a dialectical analysis of our ongoing relationship. I am not looking to frame all conversations in terms of class, surplus value, and exploitation.
But... I wouldn't say it would be a red flag. It could be. But probably not. If I were American though, it would be a red-flag, insofar as... I'm not looking to chance being sent to a prison in Libya, to be tortured or sold as slave labor. Being a communist is going to become dangerous again, in the new great America. Be careful (seriously).
That by itself? No. But like with any ideology, if it consumes their entire life and EVERYTHING comes back to that somehow? It'd be exhausting pretty quickly.

Not at all. I might get some hate for this, but I believe communism isn't a bad concept. It's that it hasn't been implemented well in any country as of yet. I'm more for anarchy than communism, but again, I'm not against it. It just means you value equality.
I think there are many issues that need to be addressed in communism though.
If it's "communist" as in the hodgepodge way conservatives use the term to define all leftists, then no.
If she's a real full-on Lenin-worshipping communist, that'd be weird, especially for a woman around my age.
If this whole question is in fact only a clever pun (communist / red flag haha) congrats to you!
Despite being raised in southern California and being trained to be a good party comrade in public school I learned that communism is just a scam. It was never intended to work. There's also something unbelievably evil about it. The sheer number of dead is a tip off. Not to mention their eyes, look at the eyes. Crazy commie eyes, everyone is talking about it now but I noticed it back in 2017 or so. They all had these eyes. Trotsky had them in old pictures. It's hard to explain. I've tried to read them as best as I can. It seems like an incredibly smug self assured look. It seems to say "I know something no one else does, I've got all the answers, I'm like god". It's like looking at someone who's capable of just about anything. Give them the slightest chance and they're cutting off teenage girls breasts and giving small children puberty blockers. Outwardly the ideology seems solid , it's astonishing to see so much death and suffering come from it.
Communism is literally a bunch of red flags. China, Vietnam, the former USSR.
I assume the question is at least partially meant as a joke.
My approach to relationships is to find someone the most different from you that you can tolerate. That is how you learn in life.
I'm centre-right... so precisely how far left she is would determine whether I could tolerate that.
Possibly or possibly not. Depends on the girl. I might be able to see it as a cute idealistic foible.
Of course I would forbid her going to Gaza rallies and it would ultimately depend on if she obeyed me.
Lol okay buddy
Depends how much, if it gets in the way of everyday like them any form of political zombie isn't my cup of tea
Are there even that many communists still around? To state the obvious, 99.9% of the people disagreeing with American-style capitalism are not communists.
Depends on more than that, being a fascist would be a red flag but I wouldn't mind an anarcho-communist for example.
Probably not. It depends entirely on which other ideas go along with it.
I'd rather date someone who thinks politics is a sham.
Mainstream politics is a sham lol, that's why community and workplace organizing is so important
A woman who supports communism is a combination of many red flags. I wouldn't touch her with a 10' pole.
Commie, Nazi, racist are all no fly zones for me.
Yup. She should have read the Gulag Archipelago.
I'm a modern leftie socialist
Not for me
No. As long as everyone accepts all points of view.
I'm one so no of course.
No it would be a green flag
Depends. If she was from Eastern Europe I wouldn't mind. If you mean the weird western antics types then no.
Being a capitalist is the red flag for me.
How communist?
Not necessarily
Nope not at all
Nope
Yes, eventually it would cause problems.
Yes it would at least for me
Probably for me
