It’s called the halo effect
A well documented psychological phenomenon
We can’t help it
It’s not a decision we make we just find ourselves doing it
It’s like if I gave you brand new phone, latest model, gold plated case
Or just handed you a 7 year old device with a broken screen that runs slowly and overheats or drains the battery in an hour
Which one will you look forward to taking good care of?

1 ySad to say, but subconsciously, yes. I tend to give more attention to attractive people, both men and women alike. I'm less likely to care whether or not unattractive people communicate with me. I know it sounds shallow and I try not to be, but it's in-built. I don't think it's hard to be attractive though. You just need to put effort into your physical appearance, workout regularly and practice proper hygiene. For me, I just don't see there to be any reason to be obese and not care if you groom yourself or not.

Anonymous(18-24)1 yNo, I try to be kind and polite to everyone I meet, regardless of their looks, gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, religion, sexual orientation etc., unless they behave, unless they're contemptuous, or disrespectful toward me, or others
With that being said, I believe most people are normal/decent, in terms of their looks. I've never seen a truly ugly face in my life. If someone seemed ugly to me, it was because of their heart

1 yNo. I don’t. Not consciously at least. However, it’s important to remember that there aren’t that many ugly people. Most people are closer to average.

1.2K opinions shared on Dating topic. No, I treat everyone with respect and care. The only people I treat differently or even better are the ones who are very close to my heart be it a best friend, family member or partner. Looks has nothing to do with it.

Anonymous(45 Plus)1 yEverybody does. Anyone who says otherwise is full of 💩.
Now here's the crux of the matter. While society has CLEAR rules about what is considered beautiful or handsome. To a lesser degree there is some discrepancy about what each individual particularly finds attractive and to what degree. Not to mention there are external factors that determines a person's particular attractiveness.
So while yes people treat beautiful people better than ugly people. It's not always clear that that is the REASON they are treating them that way.

1 yYes, I automatically assume the beautiful people have a sense of entitlement, are dumb as a bag of rocks, and have no awareness they are benefitting from their looks.

@Nikki1989 ,
What, you think I'm a hot guy? Thanks but, you've never met me or seen me. OK, I may have a bit of denial going on. But I really don't think I'm anything special to look at. Until I look around me at other guys say 35-60 who just make zero effort at all. I only look good standing next to THEM. - 1 y
Well there’s nice attractive people and some really shitty ugly people. As for me it’s a case by case basis
1 yI don’t like using the word ugly. However, as for women a woman that’s beautiful only has the advantage of getting treated better. That’s not to say, she has the right to mistreat me. Looks can only go so far as a cover of a book can only go so far. That’s not to say looks don’t matter at all because they do. However, who she is as a person matters more to me. Looks are only a bonus.

30 ReplyDepends. Are they from the USA? Then I'll treat the women who aren't as outwardly attractive much better. It's because I've both seen Coast to coast, and experienced, how they treat others. If she's an immigrant? Then I treat them all well, because they've always treated me well.

1 yI do. But not according to physical beauty, but by how they are as people. A lady can be a supermodel, but if her personality is toxic she's ugly to me.

1 yNo because dumb ass people are just dumb ass people and cool people are just cool people. I don’t think being pretty, ugly, rich or poor has anything to do with it. Personality is personality.
