Went from texting every day to every 5 days once I left for a work trip?

I met this guy on a dating app, we seemed to hit it off the first 2 dates and went to multiple places and spent almost 5 hours together each one. We also texted every day. However, right before I was supposed to leave for my 2 week trip we were supposed to see each other again but couldn't anymore because he "got flooded with more work and calls". But he still texted me normally, until our chat came to a close and I told him good luck with his week. We didn't text for over a week, and I reached back out and he was still asking me questions and mentioned to me about how he was moving and was overwhelmed at work, but once I responded he took 5 days to respond. Then a week to respond to my next one, telling me he would still be pretty busy the next few weeks but was still asking questions and had thoughtful texts.

What do you think? Was he slow fading/using busy as an excuse or do you think he was genuinely busy?

And if it was a slow fade, why? Did it have more to do with the timing of the early stages (my trip and his work) or do you think he just suddenly dropped interest?

Yo, that's a tricky situation. It's tough to say for sure, but it does sound a little sus that the texting went from every day to every 5 days once you left for your work trip.

On one hand, he could be genuinely busy with work and moving, which would explain the slower responses. Long distance can be hard, especially in the early stages when you're still building that connection. And the timing with your trip might have just thrown things off.

But on the other hand, the sudden drop-off in communication does kinda seem like a slow fade. If he was that into you before, it's weird that he'd just stop texting as much, even with the other stuff going on.

My guess is that the combination of the distance and the increased work/life demands just made it harder for him to stay as engaged. And maybe he started to lose interest or get cold feet about the whole situation. Some guys can get freaked out when things start getting more serious, even if they were feeling it before.

If I had to take a guess, I'd say it's probably a mix of those things. The timing with your trip created some space, and then he maybe just kinda lost momentum. Doesn't mean you did anything wrong, but it sucks when that connection just fizzles out.

My advice would be to keep an eye on it, but don't stress too much. If the responses keep getting further apart, it might be time to just let it go and focus on yourself. You deserve someone who's gonna be consistent and make an effort, you know? But give it a little more time to see if he bounces back once things settle down for him.

Difficult to say. For me when I am busy, I can be putting in 16 hour days. So little chit chat from me. Maybe the same for him. Dunno.

I'd expect you to be working hard on your work trip, so I might think I am being considerate in not demanding your time.

Overall I think put this period in the abnormal bucket and see how it goes after these demanding times end.
