Could you be with someone whose views are the opposite of yours?

This guy I was dating and I were actually friends for a long time before we started dating, but we never really talked about politics. One day, I mentioned a certain politician and expressed that I dislike him and the things that person supports. That’s when I found out that he actually supports that politician and his political party.

We ended up having a debate for a bit, and I got pretty annoyed because of it. He eventually chose to take a step back and say that he agreed with me (I knew he only said that to keep the peace between us, lol. Which was pretty sweet of him). After that, we never really talked about politics again. It didn’t bother us that we had different views.

I found it pretty funny. Had to upload it 😆

And if people don't know the difference of doing and not doing well then , that's what gives debates at home. But first one you have to be honest about what's really going on in this world. We do not have a government Well we have one but they don't run to the country There are sixteen secret societies with big big bucks They are the people that pull the strings

You just heard about the I. R. S Investigation, all those people that are evil. They were trying to put Trump behind bars or get him impeached. They are the people that run the country.
And that's sad. Because whoever they're backing. We should not hire them. We the little people still it's our world. It's our country no matter how deep our government has sold us out it's still ours. Our country But until the day that we say enough is enough. Then then all these big ways with their big books they have all the pull

Your politics, especially in America today, have gotten to a point where I can tell if you’re a good person or not based solely upon them. Like it’s so far beyond politics at these point, we ain’t talking tax rates. We’re talking about how you perceive and treat other human beings. That’s way bigger than politics.

And currently, there’s no way you can broadly support the goals, and the moods and attitudes behind those goals, and still be considered a good and decent human being. Like you’re simply asking me to lie to myself and pretend I’m not seeing what I’m seeing. They try to sell us on other charms or redeeming qualities they may have…. but these are character-nullifying offenses of belief. I always say, if I had kids and needed a babysitter, and my options were a pedo and MAGA supporter…. I'm not going so far as saying you’re quite as bad as a pedo is, just based on direct person-to-person harm committed, but they’re close to that bad on an ideological and societal repercussion level, and I would just cancel my plans and stay home rather than potentially expose a vulnerable child to that poisonous kind of thought

I mean, shared morals and world views is what actually matters. But morals often guide political opinions, so while in theory I don't care too much, in practice I do, especially right now where morality is very deeply engrained in politics.

But for like, political opinions that don't really relate to morals/worldviews, I don't care much if that makes sense (so long as we can talk about it respectfully, of course.).

It shouldn’t bother me, but I’m afraid if I were ever confronted by someone who was diametrically opposed to me it would bother me a lot. I guess it would depend on how they treated me though. If they were respectful of my views, I would be respectful of theirs.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say your guy is a Republican lol. Most guys seem to be, although I am not one. I'm not really political anymore in terms of this or that side. We all support things that are a mixture of red and blue views.

Politics are important in the sense of equal views in a relationship. You both should probably be the same thing. A Democrat woman who supports abortion is married to a Republican man who doesn't, and will probably feel conflicted or even depressed if their daughter got knocked up and wanted an abortion but he stands strongly on her not doing it.

The less disagreements you have in a relationship, the less conflict you'll have, and naturally that means more compatibility.

Having similar macro views is of the utmost importance in relationships. Especially if you have kids and are deciding on what views to instill (ex. Religion).

Disagreeing on stuff like what foods taste good are less important, but can add up.

I don’t think someone is a bad person just because they have different political beliefs and instantly want to disassociate with them. Some of my friends are the same party as me, a lot are not but we all want the same things just have different opinions on how to go about it. Honestly politics in general are so divisive and there are awful people all over the spectrum

I'm not letting politics dictates my relationships because I know what's happening on a global scale and governments are just facades keeping everyone busy and politicians say everything what you like to hear them say but never come through with anything promises they make. Politics is just a facade. There are other organisations above the governments that have global influence and are totally in control off every major company that are crucial to ensure our survival. Things like... railways, media ( tv, radio social media), water supplies, Agriculture, healthcare etc etc...

We all experienced this during the "covid-19 pandemic". Our rights and freedoms where taken away quickly on a global scale for something that was not as life threatening as they made us belief. Trying to force us to take jabs that turn out to cause terrible side effects which killed already many people and left others with a negative impact on their health.

Therefore I would never let politics stand in the way of real love

In my relationships I've always found she conformed to whatever I liked when it comes to politics. Maybe they weren't that political to begin with and didn't care that much, or maybe they just were happy to import me. I'm not sure which but it's never been a problem. If I had a relationship with someone who steadfastly supported the other of the two political ideologies I think that would be a problem. But chances are I'd never be in a relationship with them in the first place so it's more theoretical than anything else.

I do have a group of childhood friends who have both sides of the political Isle. And guys usually aren't shy about talking about it. It did create some rifts in some of our relationships. Sometimes we get over it and come back for a while and then have another rift. In some cases some of the guys just couldn't get over it and ended up ending the relationships.

These are guys I grew up with, and have known for more than 50 years. I never shut any of them out because of their political views even though some of them got me really annoyed. But still I felt that the friendship was stronger. But some of them shut me out.

This ends badly no matter how you slice it. Couples do need to be politically compatible. It's one of those things people often just can't see passed. Frankly it's easier to be with someone who has a different faith than you than it is with someone who has different politics. At least with faith you can agree most of the times it should unite people, spread good and help others which are the core tenants of all "Good" faith in my opinion. Politics though effect your daily life and the way we live, you two don't have different politics you have entirely different views on how the world works and should work. If you disagree on politics you fundamentally disagree with what you think is right it means you have incompatible ethics and morals in the vast majority of cases. If your partner is a person of reason and they can be educated properly to see your point of view there might be a chance they'll even come around and join your side but the chances of that are nearly 0. People get stuck in their ways with politics.

My closest friend is politically opposite, gender opposite, and different religion. This always gives us topics we can discuss and either find an agreeable middle ground, or we can agree to disagree, and move on. We have a healthy respect for one another, help each other through hard times, celebrate the accomplishments we make, and so on. Life and friendship is so much more than politics, gender, religion, food and drink preferences, and a host of other things that have some meaning in life, yet do not have enough influence to affect the relationship. As a pundit said one time, "It's a good thing we are all different. If we were all the same, everyone would be chasing my wife." So, "Viva la Difference!!" This I believe is even worse in USA , due to the polarisation of politics making it a team sport , rather than an evolving , changing principle.

In your example , I great dislike the fact that you found joy in him " backing down " that's not good at all , the debate should have been exactly that , no one should back down.

It sure helps. But I'd rather be with someone who has an open mind, because political views shift for anyone with a brain as more information becomes available.

I avoid beliefs. Beliefs are like dogma. They are locked in. Reality can conflict with beliefs and create cognitive dissonance.
I prefer opinions that can be modified or changed as a person continues to ask questions, seek facts, and learn.

Both my wife and my opinions on a lot of topics have shifted over the years. We share information and learn from each other. We evolve. She's sharp. That's one of the things I love about her.

I know what I believe. I know why I believe what I believe. But I have friends and family across the political spectrum. We don't have to agree on everything. if you can have differening views and keep the stress and love in a good place, fantastic. realize early on the drugs you are on will get you through a lot but later the pain of disagreement might leave very raw emotions. so look inside. Even trees can be torn apart limb to limb...

It's not that important we share the same political views, but their attitude towards sharing/not sharing the same political views is very important and can cause issues in the relationship especially if their attitude is extremely negative. As long as were both able to remain respectful of each others political views, then having differing political views will be a non issue.

I'd find it very hard to have a relationship with a woman who thinks men are inferior to women, that's for sure. Ditto if they had very rigid and conservative Christian beliefs.

I could be friends with them, seeing the friendship as a path toward spiritual growth.

But in today's political climate, with everyone being intolerant and hateful towards anyone who disagrees with them, sharing political views. One of the most important political views I will not cave on that a partner must share is being tolerant towards opposing view points, you can't have healthy discussions and debates without it.
