Why do girls ghost you for months then have the audacity to come back and act like nothing happened?

I've met many girls like this, they're very selfish and disrespectful. What I believe is that they probably met someone else, it didn't work out and they think of you as a second option. Do you believe this is always the case or there are other reasons? Most likely, these girls will ghost you again when they get the chance, So never take them back even if you're still single.
