Tired of waiting?

Question

I’ve traveled the world and worked my butt off for a promotion, so I feel slightly embarrassed even asking. But…my boyfriend keeps saying he’s planning a proposal, came up with a theme and everything. He got permission but my parents asked him to wait until after my stepbrothers wedding. It was a beautiful celebration, but he can’t seem to get this across the finish line after more than 4 years of dating. There always seems to be a logistical hiccup. I’ve been more than patient so I don’t drive him away. But I’m also within my right to say this needs to wrap up. Beyond tired of waiting. How do I manage? Thanks!

You can’t twist his arm into rushing along and honestly you shouldn’t want to, that isn’t the story you should want people to hear. “After 4 years of waiting and waiting I just couldn’t wait anymore so I strong armed him into getting the show on the road and then we were married”, that sucks ass. There’s deeper reason as to why he hasn’t proposed outside of logistics, reason that you may not even be aware exists. This is a CHOICE. HIS choice. 4 years in, you could be engaged already, even married, it is not what he wants yet, and who knows why.

No idea what advice to give beyond sitting down and talking to him about it (or maybe talking to your parents or something? They might be able to give him a push?). Good luck though.

What would breaking up achieve?
You’re gonna wait even longer to be married

You have a man who does love you and has asked your family and all that
He wants this

Unless you feel the hiccups are lies to dodge having to do it then I would just relax it’s sooner than you think

Considering he already told you he’s planning for it it’s the same as saying he wants to marry you.
The proposal is a formality at this point you KNOW his intention
