What do you think of the prase "don't date a guy if you're not his type?"?

I've heard this phrase a lot and was wondering what you guys thought of it. Also when people say that, do they mean like "not his type" in a way of he doesn't find you physically attractive (1) or for example his ideal type is blondes and you're a brunette but he finds you physically attractive still (2)?

I do think physical attraction is super important when dating someone.

Personally I'm very much attracted to blond hair. But my longest and best relationship has been with a brunette woman.

Me preferring blond hair doesn't mean I don't find any other haircolour not attractive. As long as it's not blue, green, yellow or red ( gingers not included) I can be attracted to you.

Basically all the natural hair colours can be attractive to me. I just don't like the fake ones

Yeah of course it's really important but when people say this phrase they also say that if for example someone was gonna date you with brunette hair, you would be looking at blondes or even ask your girlfriend do dye her hair and stuff. But I don't know if that's true. Do you think hair color is really important if you see a very attractive brunette woman?
