From an experienced guy’s perspective this can be very insulting when a woman does this. It’s “well I don’t find you attractive but since you’re a nice guy I’m confident that you will tolerate me disrespecting you like this”.

In general when women vent to a guy it’s because we want the male perspective, and if you’re easy to talk to, receptive, give decent feedback, then that’s why women “complain” to you. We aren’t mindreaders, so unless you’re making it clear that you interested, we are not just going to assume. I personally am not going to assume that every man who makes conversation with me is interested in that way. You not being clear about your intentions are what land you in the friend zone, not being confided in.

When I did that it was because I wasn’t over him. But it depends of she’s just telling you what she’s been through like once or if she’s ranting about it and keep bringing him up.
