Would you date a guy who is mentally destroyed in a previous abusive relationship?

If he's still affected by what happened in his last relationship then I feel he shouldn't date anyone for a while and give himself some time to heal from traumatic experience and memories.. he should even seek help if he is struggling to let go of what happened in the past before he start dating someone. So, no, if I genuinely like him, I'd rather wait for him to recover mentally and emotionally than to start something that will is bound to end on a bad note.

If he’s mentally destroyed from a relationship, then the last thing he needs is a new one. I wouldn’t give anyone a chance who hasn't and/or isn’t doing the work to heal that trauma. I’d never walk into a whole different situation making a brand new guy pay for what someone else did. That isn’t fair, especially knowing I’d want a clean slate as well.

Unfortunately, I couldn't do that ever again. I tried and just ended up getting hurt because the guy thought he was ready for a new relationship years after a very messy breakup from a traumatic relationship, just to find out after months of dating that he wasn't, and that he didn't have any feelings. Hurt people hurt people. I wish them the best, but the only thing I could offer is a friendship.

Yes, you can date someone who’s been hurt, but be prepared for slower trust-building, clear boundaries, and patience. Encourage professional help like therapy, keep communication honest, and remember you’re a partner, not their therapist.
