I sort of agree this is true because somehow some way I ended up with a girl that pretty much had My Dad’s personality , and that’s why her and i eventually split up , she resembled my Dad’s personality pretty spot on after I was with her for a long time , So now I am seeking a girl that is like my Mom’s personality , My mom was very positive and happy and didn’t let negativity ruin her day , that’s pretty much how I am , so I am seeking a girl that is just like how my mom was , is that normal or creepy?

Absolutely not. My mom and I fight all the time and don't agree on a ton. She's way too uptight about stuff too. I love her, but I really don't think I'd end up with anyone like her.

Same as my dad. He's not adventurous at all and way too much ego in him.

Maybe someone with a mix of their good sides. My mom's adventurous and fun loving side, and my dad's pursuit of intellectual interests, with a touch of wanting to live off grid away from society and having similar views, interests, sense of humor, etc.

Studies have been carried out in this area and there is some consensus that subconsciously at least we look for personality traits that we share with out opposite gendered parent has or had , generally speaking. . It’s said that these characteristics become almost like a template for love and belonging so when we find them in our partners we immediately recognize and are attracted by them.


I kind of agree with that but I guess it might occur to me because of the positive influence my mother had over my life until my teenage years and the very opposite effect of the man who donated the sperm.


Whether a person might end up with that partner , well there are a few variables there as well may not always be imprinted with the right personality traits that lend themselves to a sustained relationship.

My husband looks very similar to my dad. He also has some of the same mannerisms, and has quite a few things in common with my mother as well. I am very similar to my husband's father personality wise. I think it is very true that our parents shape us in many ways, including with our expectations out of a partner

I would prefer my future partner to have my dad's responsible and leading characteristics and my mom's understanding and softness. But I don't want him to have my dad's busy schedule and few of my mom's opinion. I have great parents so it'll be great to have a partner like that.

Parents get you by nature and nurture. Personality is inherited to a degree and of course how you react is positively and negatively reinforced/trained by parents.

There is also the aspect that you get used to dealing with your parent's personality types so you are a bit inured to those red flags and they can be just normal to you even though they are abnormal.

In my case girls have turned out like my mom even though in front of brain the inverse was my objective.

I think your plan is good and worthy.

Surprisingly my Partner has very similar traits to my Dad and our relationship often reminds me of my parents relationship, in a good way obviously. I find it surprising because growing up I always thought to myself that I would never end up with a Man that acts like my Dad but now as an adult I'm able to understand certain things I wasn't able to in my young years.

No, I don't think everyone ends up with someone like their mom or dad. I want nothing to do with my mom or dad. My mom is low IQ, abusive, selfish, narcissistic. My dad is bad tempered, arrogant, egotistical, verbally abusive, incapable of empathy.

People who still want someone like their terrible mothers and fathers usually need psychiatric help and are extremely traumatized.

No effin way. My parents were a train wreck! I spent a good portion of my adult life cleaning up the disasters they caused. I became the priest, counselor, advisor, and financial support for my entire family.

BI would never want someone who looks like my father, and if I were to be with someone like that, I would leave him. My father is a strict Muslim and he used to set many rules for me, I no longer follow his rules, sometimes he even appears in my dreams. This is terrible, sometimes I can't stand it. When I was a teenager, I used to do everything she wanted. I wanted to make her happy, but she exploited my feelings. I'm not a good girl anymore, my kindness is not reciprocated.
