Should I wait until I'm finished with my career path to start dating again?

I'm 26 and haven't had a girlfriend since I was 22. I've worked some pretty low/mid paying jobs between bouts of unemployment trying to finish school and haven't had any success or opportunities to meet women so far. Should I just give up for now even though I think I might not be done for 3-4 years.

Take it from an elder, life is short. Opportunities in relationships present themselves when they do. They don't wait till you're ready for them. I'm not saying you shouldn't prioritize your career. Because at the end of the day you only have you in this world that you can fully count on 100%. But nobody gets to the end of their life and says, "boy, I sure wish I'd worked more".

Life is about balance. You need money to live, but what's the point if life yields no happiness for you?

I'd put your nose to the grindstone. But be aware of your surroundings. Some of the best women I've met in my life is ironically when I had little time for them (unfortunately).

Get in good shape, don't get any bad habits like frequent alcohol use, be conservative with your money, but do get yourself some things for entertainment along the way as a reward for your hard work, then when ready, go find a foreign woman. Most American women (if you are in the USA) will only damage your life, cause stress, and drain your finances.

Depends on how much time you have to spare for a relationship. If you are full time studying something time consuming like a phd, and you don’t have much time to dedicate to building a stable relationship, then you should wait until you’re finished studying. But if you are studying something that offers a lot of free time and you have the mental capacity for a relationship, then go for it.


There’s no reward in waiting if you have the time and energy for it now.
