How much of a long shot is it to try to keep an option open from long distance?

I got a girl’s number when on vacation and I do intend on moving back to the area. I was very transparent about all of this and she seemed fine with it and told me she was interested in me. So I got her number and told her I was also interested in getting to know her more despite the distance for the moment.

Is this doomed to fail? I will do my best to keep in touch periodically. I really don’t expect her to just wait around though. Not at all. It would be great for everything to fall into place but I’m definitely just playing it cool and keeping space too.

It’s just funny how something finally happens and feels real but only when it’s like you’re not firmly rooted somewhere.

You intend on moving back to the area, is this a set in stone thing? Is there a timeline as to when you’ll move? Do you have a job set up there and already looking into living arrangements? I’m mainly asking all this because I feel like LDR’s are only successful when there’s a silver lining and a tangible end date to the distance. Otherwise it’ll just feel like a lot of fantasies, hopes and wishes.


Texting/calling will begin to fizzle out and become repetitive because you’ve run out of things to talk about and aren’t seeing each other in person as to make new memories, aka new topics. It could also become a depressing/hurtful situation because you’ll be missing them, wanting to see them or have them there in that moment and you can’t. The distance is a huge sacrifice, one that may be difficult to sustain without being able to say “by October this year it’ll be over” or something like that.

Time to check back in reality. Nobody wants to wait around for somebody else who's never going to show up, or show up years later, or whatever the hell is going to happen. Long distance relationships are bullshit. Move nearby her and start a relationship or just don't expect a relationship.
