Should I ask this girl out online or wait for a chance to run into her again to do it inperson?

She is a friend of my best mates girlfriend, who I used to work with as well. I have seen her and spoken to her maybe half a dozen times while at work "I work in a bar" and she has been very happy and friendly. I saw her new years briefly on my break and I'm kicking myself I didn't ask her out. I wanted to do it in person but at the same time it felt unprofessional and woused out. I added her on Facebook today it's pending but is it worth waiting to see her by chance again to do it in person. Or just send a DM and ask her out at the risk of waiting to long or not seeing her.

I can't tell you what to do but I can tell you what happened to me and how it impacted the future dating potential.

There was a guy who was 100% "my type" and we were very into each other. Everyone presumed we'd been dating, but he kept putting off asking due to his work. He then kept "running into me" at events... then putting on the boyfriend act again. Finally I gave up on waiting and asked him out bc I had tickets to something awesome. I didn't hear back from him in a timely manner so I gave the tickets away to a friend and his girlfriend to go enjoy the event. About an hour later he says he'll shuffle his travel plans to go with me... but it was too late.

After that we just kept messing up with each other. I presumed he wasn't interested. He presumed I wasn't interested... but then when we're in front of each other... explosive chemistry.

Now I just avoid him.

So... moral of the story is not to wait too long. Call and ask her out.

A double date or group social outing is a good idea. but what's the advantage over a regular date. Plus wouldn't I be asking her out to go to it anyway but also adding the risk of being friend zoned?

Why would she friend zone you if she's your mates girlfriend's friend? Has she shown some level of attraction or interest beyond general niceness? A lot of relationships start by mutuals hooking each other up. Plus you can still treat it as a pseudo-date and establish a baseline level of comfort so that she will be eager to go on another with you. Just do everything you've been doing and make sure your mate and his girlfriend don't dress it up as a "double date" in her head but rather just doing something. Fun, but not overly friendly.
