there's this guy who I really like and he's asked me out a couple of times but he's extremely left wing whilst im definitely not.

Im British and he's American. We met due to work and were both constantly travelling back and forth with each other and often catch flights together and hang out as work friends just to keep each other company as it can get very lonely. he's asked if id never be interested in meeting up in a different setting that wasn't work related and I told him Id have to think about it.

he's been pretty forward coming with his feelings towards me but I don't feel as if he knows the real me and only knows the work me that has to keep my opinions to myself.

I've seen his social media and we live very different lifes he's very privileged and kinda lives in abit of bubble were he thinks he's doing good by being left wing maybe because he's grown up around privilege and has some kind of guilt around it.

Myself I grew up very different on a council estate in the uk with a single mum. I have very strict rules for myself and see myself as very logical and I dont believe in all this bs stuff like he convinced himself he does.

Besides that we really get on we have similar taste in style, music and make each other laugh loads. If it wasn't for are different views of politics we'd be great together. We have a very strong connection with each other and a couple times he's tried to touch me in little flirty ways. Like holding my hand, putting his arm around me, pretending to fall asleep on my shoulder.

he's never step over the line of sexual harassment and he's said to me if he ever upsets me to let him know straight away. he's really cute too and im really physically attracted to him.

But there's that other thing of us being colleagues and having to see each other time to time. We could probably avoid each other if tried but he's kinda all or nothing kind of man

Similar views are extremely important to me. Religion, politics, core values, and just overall way of thinking. The more you have in common, the less conflict there will be down the road.

I would never date someone on the far left, same way I wouldn't date someone religious. I might date an open-minded centrist. And as an agnostic, I'm open to date an atheist.

I couldn't stand being with someone who hates Trump without giving legitimate reasons for hating him. I couldn't date someone who promotes the alphabet brigade and wants to hang up rainbow flags everywhere, or who thinks women should compete with men in sports, or share the same washrooms. I couldn't be with someone who goes to church every week and tries pushing me to go too, or who eventually wants to raise kids religious.

I can go on and on, but you get it. The more you disagree in terms of views, the more conflict there will be.

Not saying everyone with the same political view as me will be a good fit due to individual differences, but i can for sure say i have dated right wingers and we could argue until 3 am over literally anything and everything

I used to be sort of heavy into politics until I realized that for the most part it doesn't matter. So I would look for someone who is similar in that regard who doesn't have heavy political views because it's not really a big factor on the grand scheme of things.

If you think someone's beliefs are bs, you shouldn't date them. It has nothing to do with working together or laughing loads or liking similar music. You don't respect him. The toxic feelings you have will get worse with time.

I would say everything "extreme" is not good. In the end it is important that all is balanced.

I dislike violence, and parties that use it are unacceptable to me. That's a personal point. I wish more people would learn about Gandhi's life and reflect on it. He was a very wise man.

I personally would never because I love to talk about history and political things (etc) and i think if we have too different views it will cause many arguments and both will be unhappy if we keep disagreeing with eachother, I think its much better to be with someone with similar views as you to lessen arguments and have a stable relationship.

It already feels as if we are dating because its not genuinely that normal for a man and women to hang out that much even as friends. Were eating at nice restaurants together staying in nice hotels. Its pretty awkward if we dont talk or get on with each other. Yes there's other colleagues but we are all international and most are colleagues will speak in there own language and hang with there own people. We are the only two that really speak English as a first language and understand similar culture and stuff

What would you say I should do to let him down gently because its hard in the moment?

For example there's been a couple times we've been chilling out relaxing together laughing and then the sexual tension comes along and I just have to drag myself away and say I want to go for a nap or that im not feeling very well.

Sometimes if I say im not feeling well he thinks he needs to look after me when I just want to get away from him without hurting his feelings because I don't want to do something ill later regret.
