Misunderstanding with my boyfriend, please help?

Question

My boyfriend and I have been together for 2,5 years. I am loyal and so is he. We love each other and trust each other. We are confident in our relationship and don't really get jealous or worry too much.

But a few days ago a misunderstanding happened. I often play the game fortnite and I was playing the 'delulu' mode on my own. Meaning that you can talk to everyone in the game. It can be toxic, but also really fun. After 2 hours I was in a game full of Dutch people (I am Dutch) and we all got along and had fun. Girls and guys. The group of around 10 people invited me to join their party so that we could play more games together at that time. They all added me (and each other) and I added them back. Guys, girls, I didn't really care.

30 minutes later I logged off and after that I never spoke to them again. Yesterday I was playing fortnite with my boyfriend and suddenly one of those guys (from that group) randomly joins my party without asking or letting me know. Mind you, I never personally spoke with this guy, he was just in that group for the 30 minutes that we all played together. I literally didn't even know his name lol. Already forgot about that group in the first place.

For some reason this guy did know my name (It's lowkey in my username, but he said it as if he knew me very well, and in Dutch). He could also see that I was playing with another guy (my boyfriend), before he joined. My boyfriend went silent and asked "Who is this?" So I kicked the guy from our party without talking to him and immediately unfriended him. I then explained to him what happened in the delulu gamemode and that they were all Dutch aswell. He seemed to believe me, but the rest of the night he was more silent than usual and I could feel that he was a little uncomfortable and perhaps even sad? Eventually he cheered up again and bought me a skin, but I just feel so bad that I made him feel that way, even though it was a huge misunderstanding.

Ik vind dat je erg goed hebt gehandeld in deze situatie! Helaas kunnen dit soort acties van jongens wel tot relatiebreuken en wantrouwen leiden.

Maar ik vind het wel mooi om te horen hoe je dit aan hebt gepakt. Volgende keer zou ik alleen die vreemde jongen keihard voor lul zetten terwijl je vriend mee luisterd zodat hij niet gaat denken dat er tussen jou en die vreemde jongen dingen zijn gebeurd terwijl hij niet online was.

Ik heb zelf mee gemaakt dat een meisje mij heeft proberen te versieren op een feestje terwijl mijn vriendin er niet bij was maar omdat ik heb duidelijk tegen dat meisje heb gezegd dat ik trouw ben en blij was met mijn vriendin besloot zei om mij op te zoeken op facebook en heeft ze achter mijn rug om een bericht gestuurd naar mijn vriendin om te vertellen dat ze een kei leuke vriend had waar ze blij mee moest zijn en bla bla bla.
Maar die actie van dat meisje heeft wel wantrouwen veroorzaakt bij mijn vriendin en dit heeft 6 jaar lang voor argwaan en problemen gezorgd. Uiteindelijk heeft die actie ook bijgedragen aan onze relatiebreuk omdat het vertrouwen gewoon niet 100% meer was.

Ik hoop voor jullie dat niemand tussen jullie relatie inkomt in de toekomst en het belangrijkste is open en eerlijk naar elkaar blijven zijn en goed communiceren. Maar je hebt perfect gehandeld vind ik💪🏼🥳

It's normal stuff and feelings and communication is the way to solve it, rebuilding trust, makes it better. if it triggered other wounds in him, then have to pay attention to those and honor them.

Why don't you put the game away and sneak up on each other athome with fake knives and grenades. its more fun. do that with your friends... break into their house and attack them.

I think if it was just a misunderstanding then that will eventually be evident. You guys have been together for 2,5 years, not 2,5 weeks. I mean if you've never done anything suspect before than why would that change now. He'll eventually realize that. Also immediately kicking that guy from that party might have made you look guilty. I know, this was I no win situation. Like I say, your history with him will eventually tell him this is just something he's creating in his head. Because he is.
