When a person says “I swear I’m never like this…”?

In my case it’s a fellow, but I’ve seen women do this too. They flake or reschedule then want to act like everything’s fine and they can pick up later, claiming, “I swear I’m never like this… It’s just a busy time in my life….” (Blah blah blah.)

Personally, I’ve always given a person (guy or gal) the benefit of the doubt, but now… idk… I find myself becoming more standoffish. I just can’t be bothered with folks who will flake.

It depends on the reason. Say your loved ones had an emergency. That's a legitimate excuse. But I genuinely can't think of many scenarios where I would tolerate flaking. I'm okay with someone coming a little late as long as they update me on their ETA, but other than that, one strike and they're out. And come on... "I swear I'm never like this" is BS 99% of the time. You're telling me that it's their first or one of their first times going out with you and they flake in one of those times? Statistically, that means there's a high chance of them flaking.

Yeah, if it happens often to you I’d get being stand offish. It feels shitty but sometimes people just have things that happen that’s out of their our your control. I’d give them the benefit of the doubt unless they seem to make a habit of it. Then that’s when you know it’s time to cut it loose.

People do this when they are not interested, or put others at a lower priority. Same as those who when you invite them to a party, say “Maybe” all the time and never come.

The fellow who most recently said this was “love bombing” prior and then again through to today, but I shut it down bc I don’t like that he flaked last minute. Afterwards he made profuse apologies, but I have a feeling that he met someone else to go out with.

I would rather he’d just said the plan was tentative rather than to keep love bombing all week just to cancel the day of….
