How to date as a mild schizophrenic with an overbearing mother?

I’m a mild schizophrenic (basically a normal woman, as long as I don’t work full time, or have kids); and as long as I rest a lot in between social events and work shifts. Otherwise I do become crazy, although non violent and I recover really fast for a schizophrenic.

ATM I’m living at home on the dsp. I’m trying to get another job as a carer. I’ve managed to do it part time before and I was good at my work. I’ve applied for public housing so I can have my own space.

I’ve met a man who I like, who seems to be pursuing me and my mum is very worried about it. She has snarky comments about what a bad person this guy is and she never even met him. I’ve noticed she doesn’t seem to want me to date. But on the other hand, I feel like if I can work part time, I can date; and my cousin is also a mild schizophrenic but less mild than me and she works part time and manages to have a serious boyfriend and interests.

I’m going anonymous, as many people have biases against mental health issues, until they meet a mild case.

I don't see what's the problem as long as you are taking medicine for it. Are you on medication?

Yes I always remember to take it on time. One small tablet a night 😊

Thanks 😊. I also see a psychologist once a month, to test my sanity. Where I just have a conversation for an hour. If I were not a schizophrenic, I’d want kids and full time work and I’d be beautiful (the meds cause weight gain). But i don’t think of it often; I just am thankful that I can work at all, live alone and be married and have a mostly normal life at all. Most schizophrenics are a lot worse off. So I got off lightly in comparison. Also, there’s more time to spend with loved ones with part time work.

You're welcome. 😊 And that's also great that you see a psychologist once a month! I need to honestly get into therapy again. It would probably help me a lot. And yes most are a lot worse off. That's so nice that you work and have time with the family. That's very important. Helps keep sanity in tact.

It does, yes. A supportive family, lots of friends, a few options to go out with, therapy and meds and I’m mostly ok. therapy is good.
