Marriage is most certainly for children as children have demonstrably better outcomes with a father and a mother in home.

Single dads are more likely to be employed than single moms as there is greater societal expectation of men to work. Above a threshold of stable housing and basic items like food the argument would seem to become more and better toys generate better outcomes.

Certainly an employed parent sets a good example for children. The children of unemployed parents tend to grow up to be unemployed.

Men have more emotional regulation than women and that will make them better parents. Tough love is cited. More boundary and expectation setting.

I think a significant problem today is that it is quite possible for a child to never have a relationship with a mature man. Often the mother sabotages the child's relationship with the father once divorced. At primary and secondary school, the teachers are all female and even university is feminized.

So the child will be in a feminized environment for most of their early life which is quite unnatural. Single dad children do have a mature man in their life but it is quite likely single mom children never do.

That could be true, but at the same time, there are women that won't allow themselves to do that, they will sacrifice right now before they have their kids to make money. So they don't have to sell themselves short and depend on anybody, because that's who they are, and that's who they want to be, they want to have children and be successful? And they can do that. Women are strong, people women know how to get what they want. Most of them , the smart ones keep their mouth shut , and they keep going further , and further up at the ladder to success

I look at marriage this way: it's a legal status which has advantages and disadvantages. In the US, there is a substantial marriage penalty for two high wage earners. Financially the most advantageous may be to delay marriage until one or both are no longer working.
